The Blackpool inferiority complex is entirely about Brannagan.
To try and see it from their point of view, it isn’t just the a Championship club couldn’t offer the wages or make itself a more attractive proposition than a League One club.
What must have really embarrassed was the constant messing around trying to offer something beneath the release clause, which was itself ridiculously low.
Their club - and most of their fans - thought a L1 club would be seriously awed by their financial power.
The way that it played out left them in no doubt that football had moved on and left them behind.
From there, it’s classic stages of grief stuff - denial (offering £10 for a £1m player is fine), anger (at Brannagan for turning them down), bargaining (Kyle Joseph is a £10m player we got for free) and soon we’ll hopefully get to acceptance.
