Half time
Worst 15 minutes of the season to start. Players rushed and with no idea about their position or game plan. Three of the slowest CBs you could hope for pinging balls shoulder height at short players, and when the ball finally came to us Stevenage pressed and broke fast. The most deserved deficit you'll see.
Thankfully, this gave us the kick up the a**e we needed. We started to get the ball down, pass and move. Stevenage now on the back foot and then we really got going, culminating with the goal. Things have got a bit agricultural since but in playing terms we are streets better. Just needs calm heads now.

The tactical shift has brought Leigh back into the team - and he has been outstanding.

I actually thought once we stopped giving away endless dead balls around our box and letting them pen us in the change in system worked ok. And I don’t agree at Rodrigues was poor. He tried a couple of tricks that didn’t come off - but he and McGuane have been arguably our best players when it comes to driving us forward and actually attacking their defence.

Quite impressed with how we dealt with a set-back against a really tough, streetwise team. Although as someone else pointed out - it’s pretty even, you wouldn’t say we were in any way the better side and hard-done by with the score being 1-1 at HT.

(Also hope we keep our discipline - it will be tested. Raynor and Evans were getting more and more visible/flappy/argumentative as that half went on…)

The few times that we started passing it round and McGuane was driving forwards, RR was playing intelligent passes, we looked dangerous. But too often we resorted to long balls pumped forward which doesn’t really suit any of our forward line. We definitely miss having pacy wingers each side attacking their fullbacks.

Maybe Mcreachran on for RR allowing Cam to go forwards. Going out!

I suspect that our game plan is to keep them at arm’s length until 65/70 mins and then to bring on Mills/Murphy and carve them open.
