National News Boris Johnson - Ousted Former PM

I do, it was.

Did you keep the haircut?
I did, but below the belt. I now spend 10 minutes guffawing at my own genitals every morning. Makes a welcome change for me to finally be the one laughing.

Changing tack a bit.... the government are telling big porkie pies about the events around HMS Defender too.

I can't even pretend to be surprised at the lengths Johnson and his pals will go to in order to subvert the truth. I'm sure Chemical Ali will be along any minute now to tell us either that there is nothing to see here, or it's all fine because they're all at it.

I think ignore the above based on a newer article and video from the same source:

See above.
Just go and look for the facts...................

I’ve been looking for the ‘facts’ and they certainly weren’t obvious in today’s rape prosecution debate. Our esteemed leader mentioned more policemen, more funding and more CPS staff, all the while ignoring the drop in all three since 2010/11. Judicious with the truth, as ever.

I normally miss these, but is this one of those squirrels? Russia firing on our boat didnt happen, but look something else happened at PMQs!!!

Lucky there was a BBC reporter on board. 😳😳😳 What the fcks that ask about!?

Journalists can often be embedded with military units. In the 2nd Gulf War, a friend's unit had an embedded Journalist throughout their advance across Iraq.

That HMS Defender was 2 nautical miles inside territorial waters and Russian Coastguard boats moved to make them change course?

Those facts?
Ukranian Territorial Waters you mean? Or are you suggesting we recognise the Russian occupation?

Not at all. Just questioning what the government were hoping to achieve, knowing full well the reaction it would provoke by clearly trying to "send a message".
I thought gunboat diplomacy died out in the last century and was pretty ineffective as a diplomatic approach, particularly so with a despot like Putin!

Poorly judged in my opinion and will have no positive outcome for us, the Ukraine and anyone else (apart from possibly Putin himself). Not that we should be surprised, looking at Bojos lamentable Foreign Policy record and this bizarre view of what "global Britain" should be.

But were not at war ffs!

Although with this completely unnecessary, provocative, macho posturing that might not last too long. 😳

Ukranian or Russian?
It was little more than a "nudge" to Russia that NATO hasn`t forgotten their annexation and behaviour in the region, whether "we" think that is right or wrong is a moot point in global politics.
HMS Defender, if it desired, could easily look after itself. It has an effective combat range of 70+ miles using Sea Viper
May I recommend you watch Warship:Life at Sea (Ch5) to see how often such interactions happen, a recent episode showed HMS Duncan being "buzzed" by the Russians...... and gathering stacks of electronic data at the same time.

"Nudge"?

You see that as an effective tactic against Putin?....dear lord!

It's crass at best and is hardly going to make Putin sit up and say..."yeah, fair point....what was I thinking". More likely to hasten the next wave of cyber attacks on western interests than anything else (and maybe a few poisonings for good measure).

I don't really care all that much about the capability of an individual ship and whether or not "it's a bit handy". You would kind of hope it was for the sake of those on board as much as anything.

Yorkshire Terriers can be nasty little bastards, but I still wouldn't let one provoke a Rottweiler [emoji1787]

Was it a NATO exercise? Haven't read/heard that anywhere. That would shine a slightly different light on it.

Should have listened to the chap who was on BBC news this AM.
It`s bigger stuff than we can change or influence.
He was talking about the Russians not liking any activity in the area and likened it to a public footpath, the Russians might not like it but it was a perfectly legal right of safe passage.

The Type 45 is rather more than a Yorkshire Terrier and would be up against an aging Rotty with arthritis and sight issues. ;)

It was posturing from the Russians that "we" just shrugged at, got ready to act, then walked on by. Whereas the Russians stood on the other side of the street waving their arms around in classic pavement dancing moves.
They could have taken out the Russian planes before they got over the horizon had they wished, you may wish to educate yourself about the Type 45 capabilities.

Cyber warfare? Well that is the real future, probably some teenage kid in a bedsit in Slough could take down civilisation!! :ROFLMAO:

Poisonings? Again it is just sending a message to various individuals that they never forget and always get even.

Apart from that there`s not much wrong with Vlad, seems popular, looks after a very complex nation and would probably take on Appleton in the guns stakes!

I did listen to him. He didn't say it was a NATO exercise. You implied it was. Was it?

This posturing goes on all the time, the Russians do it quite regularly to us trying to send long range bombers into our airspace, and US Navy in the South China Sea after China has stolen land/seabed off smaller nations. For example, recently the Russians tried pushing the boundaries with the Queen Elizabeth taskforce while it was supporting missions in Iraq against Daesh etc.

It is necessary to back our ally, Ukraine, after they had their land stolen by Russia or should we just ignore that the Crimea was stolen?

It is also necessary as Russia has previously tried to block access to other nations to the surrounding international waters/Black Sea with threats hence why such patrols involving NATO allies has become a regular thing. I think we have sent patrols annually now for the last 3 or 4 years with US and French Navy partners.

And journalists don't only embed in war, it is fairly common in war or peace. After all there was a TV series following Royal Navy ships in recent years that went into the Med, Black Sea etc.

Further, the Journalist may have been there as days before we signed a deal on new ships with Ukraine. 2 Missile ships to be built in the UK and 6 of the same to be made in Ukraine all for the Ukrainian Navy. They are also buying 2 old Royal Navy Minesweepers which will be refitted in the UK before joining the Ukrainian Navy.

This is probably why the Russians have got noisy about something that is quite common. After all a year or so a go a Russian fleet did similar when it went through the English Channel.
