How to complete the season

I reckon it could fetch 12, the clubs that would be effected by PPG in terms of going down would vote for resuming if that's the only other option, and the teams just outside the playoffs, as well as those who've already said they want to continue, will vote for a restart. I don't see it coming out on top, but it wouldn't be far away from half.

I doubt Bolton or Southend will bother, to far off to make up the points gap. No club above Tranmere but out of the play offs (so up to Burton) is going to vote to carry on, obviously Coventry and Rotherham will vote to end it, add Wycombe as they don’t want to play (they haven’t played football all season so why start now) and that’s 15 teams, I can’t see anyone convincing 4 of those teams to change, if anything I think a couple in the play offs will change and accept the chance of promotion from 3 games rather than 9.

It’ll be PPG then, there’s no chance of finishing the games. Would be weird to have playoffs, I might rather just promote the top two and finish it there.

Great article..................... couldn`t he spell Oxford? Or didn`t we fit the "big" or "small" aspect?:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Between the lines it looks like they’re trying to alienate the smaller clubs and the clubs they can’t spell and they’re in it for themselves. I don’t think Catlin is worried about other clubs he wants promotion as do clubs down as far as fatty Evans mob, but why should we have play offs if L2 cancelled them and as someone posted earlier Port Vale 1 point outside play offs and voted to end the season.
I still think the 3 EFL leagues should all finish the same way, and what gives L2 the right to cancel relegation? And cancel their play offs, the FAhave to now come out and take charge they are the governing body and should be what they say goes. Apparently they’ve been working hard for the last couple of months to solve this now if the leagues decide what’s going to happen then you may as well do away with the FA and elect a board from within the 3 leagues of the EFL.

It would be much, much better as an Oxford fan to have playoffs rather than just void the season with no promotion/end it and not have us go up?

1. A few more games to watch, no matter it’s behind closed doors it will be exciting/fun to watch, and something to do, finally some football

2. A chance to go up which despite all the warnings etc has to be the ultimate aim

The EFL decided last weekend that it should be points weighted option as Division 2.
We shot ourself in the foot, or we didn’t want promotion, fact.

The trouble is that everyone is waiting for next weeks figures which will give us a much clearer picture of the future than is possible now

League 2 has voted for unweighted ppg. I think your post is light on facts if I'm honest.

At the end of the day all 3 leagues must adhere to the same ruling, If theres no relegation from L2 then theres none from L1 or the Championship either, Which means no promotion, Let the EFL and PL sort out the promotion and relegation spots between them. Though TBH the EFL board should just make a decision and say thats it if you dont like it , tough
Really? On what formal ratified constitutional basis?

I think his/her point is that it seemed, from that original Athletic article and from subsequent accounts of that original meeting that have come out on the airwaves*, that weighted PPG had been brought up and was going to be applied. Something must have happened in the interim for straight PPG to have been adopted instead. I would agree with the poster to an extent in that it doesn't seem like our insistence on finishing the season and being part of the 'Breakaway 6' (or whatever we're being called) has helped to make the case for weighted PPG.

Furthermore, I would add that I think finishing 3rd is important if we have ambitions of promotion, as I don't think these playoffs will be played. As certain posters, particularly RyanioBirdio, have stated for weeks/months, the logistical complications of football at our level restarting this season seem insurmountable. In that scenario, if three teams have to go up, only the team sitting in 3rd would be considered. Maybe only two will go up, maybe playoffs will somehow be played, I don't know - but being third at least puts us in prime position for that eventuality.

*I'm going to start sounding like some sort of pod plant on this forum soon I bring it up so much (and I'm not, I promise, it's just really good), but if anyone's interested check out Matt Slater talking on the most recent episode of Not the Top 20 pod. About 40-45 minutes in, he says that on the first League One-wide Zoom call where a team (I think Oxford?) brought up weighted PPG and explained the reasoning behind it, all the other clubs' representatives seemed convinced - even those whose teams it would detriment (and who apparently tried to hastily move the discussion on!).

Just a season ticket holder’s view, have no inside track, but ...

there’s no way on God’s earth season is going to be played to a finish. All the clubs playing staff are furloughed aren’t they?

Playoffs organised in such a way that participating clubs aren’t out of pocket.

4-6 weeks to get ready, then 5 match season conclusion and everything finished iby end July.

Games free to season ticket holders.

Punters gets to see a bit of football. Important step in the ‘new normal.’

Fingers crossed and then new season starts again in September. Enter I Player variants.

New contractual arrangements - vastly lower money for those negotiating new contracts - for lower league footballers Will be very interesting market when you look at those on existing contracts. Eg James Henry in a much better position personally than, say Matt Taylor. Lots of work for employment lawyers.

All subject to the dreaded virus. There are signs to this reader that it is dying out. But who knows?

Think of the playoffs as being step 1 in the turnaround of lower league football.

On another thread some ST Holders are happy to let ride £60+ so remind me are the Play Offs part of the season ticket Package? No they're not so why not stream the games at a set price to everyone and let your football club have some income? After all people are desperate for another ball to be kicked !
Or better still whilst you're at it why not think long term and realize nobody will be attending a football game for some time and start marketing for next season via streaming tickets that include the play offs?
