Agree with what they are saying as the energy market is broken. Sadly this would be a radical solution so probably won't happen.

When the "free" market can be manipulated relatively easily it is no longer "free".

If (if!) they are brave enough to do it the sigh of relief would be audible.

If (if!) they piddle about with a few hundred quid here and there, then the snowball will start rolling down the mountain.

People, small businesses, town centres, transport, food the list goes on and will get bigger.

Time to start prepping and moving into the bunker.

I though it was only the cannabis farmers who will be affected by this rise in gas and electric prices as nobody else can be using that much energy? ...

Some people are very poorly prepared it seems.

Just putting it out there. 🤷‍♂️

Smart Meter score today (new tariff started yesterday) - Gas & Electric - for a week - £9.24 so will probably be £11.50-£12.00 by Sunday.

Standing charge to add to that.

Even if we double/treble that consumption over the course of Winter (November to March) how are we going to hit £5k or more?

You might not, but millions will.

What if they don’t have any cake?

He`s busy doing his farewell tour, so technically working in his current role, and not wishing to commit his successor to anything in particular. :)

Had the forced resignation not happened he would have done something. 🤷‍♂️

We are now at 40% renewables now that Hornsea 2 is online.

When Dogger Bank gets turned on that will be another huge increase.

Self sufficiency and disconnecting from global markets is coming...........
You said we reap what we sow when we asked why he’s on holiday instead of doing his job

Now your saying he wasn’t on holiday and was doing his job

Which time were you bullshitting?

It would be good to have tips on ways we can all save on our electricity and gas bills.

I know not everyone has an open fire or wood burner, but in the YR‘s household we have stocked up on logs ( an increase of @7.5% on last years prices) and will be firing up the wood burner and keeping the gas central heating at a minimum when the time comes.

Our oven and hob is gas and large, so it costs a fair bit to use. We had an Air fryer but barely used it, but we are now doing lots of meals in there, and it's cheaper and quicker than using the oven for most things. We have also mixed a lot of frozen veg packs to create individual bags of mixed veg that microwave in 1 minute.

We've also got the kids fluffy socks and onesies/dressing gowns which will mean that we can drop the thermostat a few degrees without feeling guilty, and we're also getting the kids to turn off all items in their rooms when they get up. They haven't got loads of things, but everything was either on standby or having various charging cables on all day.

Our conservatory holds the heat and is pretty warm during the day into October/November so we have an airer that we'll use to dry most of our clothes throughout the year without having to use the tumble dryer. We're also looking at being more sensible and hoping to do a couple of fewer washes per week.

Nothing that will save a fortune, but hopefully enough to soften the blow of the increases that are coming. Along with cancelling subscriptions, blagging a decent discount from Sky and being a little more thrifty with shopping, we're hoping to save around £200 a month - although that is likely to be eaten up by the energy bills, it should mean that we are not too worse off.

Yes a simple thing such as turning off electrical appliances that are on constant standby will help to make a difference.

Nobody was saying a two person household was going to reach that. come back in February and tell us what your weekly bill is.

They suggested it was going to be the "average" - anyone getting close?

Efficiency Tips............
Washing machine & dishwasher go on when we go to bed so on Eco Tariff
Laundry dried on the line in the garden or on clothes horses indoors. No tumble dryer.
Electronics not left on standby.
Fridge/freezer has a low power holiday mode when we are both out.
Thermostat was set at 19oC but we`ve notched it down to 16oC.
Radiator thermostats - can set the guest wing low and shut the door.
Decent combi boiler with a high efficiency rating - ours is rated at 91/92% - regularly serviced as well.
Batch cooking - freeze and reheat.
Halogen oven for roasts etc - uses 75% less energy than the oven.
New kettle. :)

First up its a quote.
Look elsewhere for starters.
Look at the energy efficiency of his business.
Look at alternatives - solar on the roof.
Look at costs & margins.

As any business would/should - its like looking at your domestic costs and making decisions/choices. 🤷‍♂️

From the thread - posted by a neighbour of the business.................

"Fill your roof with solar can only help a bit. Pete in the unit next door has ground source for heating so could speak to him about that, all new installations would most prob fall under 130% super tax."

Glad to help.

You should post this as a reply to the guy on Twitter then you can make a fool of yourself in front of a much bigger audience.
