If Nathan Jones is interested and gets the job I will be astounded. But it would show intent and ambition.

Me too. I've never mentioned him because I just assumed he's out of reach - on every level. I imagine there wouldn't be one unhappy Oxford fan if we somehow managed to secure him.

Makes no sense given I assume his Saints pay will end when he gets a new role.

Does it work like that though ? I thought he'd just be paid off in one lump when he left, much like the way Mourinho pockets millions. Then he's free to go wherever.

Not the type to sit on his backside for too long though. I know we say money talks but I see him as one who would rather be working than on the shelf. As others I've said if we haven't at least made the call then there's something wrong.

I'd have reservations, his interviews near the end of his Soton days were quite frankly gibberish .
Not sure about him at all.

I would be completely stunned should he come here, and even remotely interested in the job.

Mind you it depends what the owners are offering in terms of contractual pay/bonus to stay up, massive budget in the summer. Etc

Money talks, but I’d still be absolutely amazed.

I wouldn't. Sold properly by the interview team/board and we're a great opportunity (budget, stadium plans etc) - and have more potential than Luton where he managed twice. Can't see many bigger clubs chasing him after failures at Stoke and Southampton.

Jones has managed in many leagues so surely woujd appeal from a future proof perspective. He knows what's below and above, so ideally placed to know what's needed.
He might want to take us on a journey.

Based on what?
How he would feel his level is… he doesn’t seem to be lacking in confidence in his own ability.

Having said that, how many times in the past have managers gone straight from a Premier League club to League One? Can’t have happened often

You would assume that Nathan Jones would be looking for low PL or high Championship jobs now?
He won't get another PL job and he's a bit of a laughing stock for the moment, mainly on account of some very rambling and chippy interviews. He needs to step back a bit and we may suit him by being ambitious, nearby, or whatever.

Don't think he gets either. His best hope now is a return to Luton or a 'local boy' job like Cardiff, neither of which will be available until in to next season. He could be tempted to come and reinvent himself but sounds to me like there's not much substance to this anyway?

I agree. Why would Nathan Jones want a possible relegation from L1 to L2 on his CV?
He seems to have a first love, Luton. He might well wait and take a sabbatical until Luton have a managerial vacancy again.
Im sure he’d be aiming higher than L1 and may well think he has unfinished business at Luton.
After Southampton, a job at PL might be too much to expect. Saints never wanted him in the first place

Jim Smith went from Birmingham to Oxford😀

Absolutely no chance of PL, I've got more chance of managing in the PL than he has. The only way he's getting there again is by taking a team there. High end Championship ? What's the next step for a high end Championship club ? The PL - wont happen. He needs to start again down towards the bottom of the Championship, build the club up - as he did at Luton - and get them punching above their weight to make the play offs, something he is very good at. A top L1 job, I think, might appeal, it's whether or not he'd see us as a big enough club to match what he's achieved so far.
