I find it quite staggering that any Oxford fan would be against a return for Mapp. Having a preferred candidate yes but I would never be upset to see him return.
Likewise, he was always honest in every interview, you could trust him and that team were fantastic that he assembled. Im by no means saying he’s a messiah but he sits far and above that bag of tripe that has just left, even if it’s just getting some order and discipline back into the club.

Problem Appleton will have is trying to get the best out of a depleted, flimsy and incoherent squad with a small number of games remaining.

People would genuinely need to give him time as Robinson has wrecked this team. I would not blame Appleton if the worst happened and we got relegated.

Imagine what MAPP would have done with Karl's budget. He was the master of identifying great, young talent. Imagine what he could unlock with double the budget he had.

My head says never go back and try to recreate a great thing. But then I remember that game against Carlisle, the Swansea win, the way we were being talked about in the press at the time.

Mapp gave us the best Oxford United there has ever been during my lifetime. If he wants it he should get it.
I bet if he was manager next season we would have the magic hat back😉

Any idea who was on the panel that appointed Pep Clotet? I’m pleading that they stay well away from this process.
I'm pretty sure that David Jones (the SKY chappie who was a director for quite a few years) had a big say in choosing Clotet. I saw an interview where he basically said that Pep was the unsung brains behind Garry Monk's success.

I can understand Appleton being high on peoples lists but it’d be an appointment just lacking that bit of stardust and wow factor. I’m flitting between Buckingham, Richardson and Lennon. With Buckingham you’d be getting the vibrancy and a sky’s the limit sort of feel. Richardson I think, at last, would give us a robust, strong, athletic, resolute side - a team that would be difficult to play against but good to watch too. Lennon can be a bit confrontational but I just think he’d get hold of this club and have immediate respect - look at what he’s won as both a manager and player.

I wonder how attitudes would be different had he left for the manager’s position at Leicester instead of the assistant.

People keep thinking him going to be a number two elsewhere is disrespectful & I have no idea why.

Critchley done the same with mid-table Championship Blackpool.
Half a million a year may have had something to do with it.

I’ll be amazed if Matt Taylor (no, not that one) doesn’t apply for the job. Lives locally and eager to get back into management. Not saying I want him, I just think he will apply

Neil Lennon has been shocking anywhere other than Celtic. No thanks.

The thing is when you think about it I don’t blame him for taking the opportunity available to him. Assuming the talk about his budget being pulled from underneath him is true. I think sometimes people forget how cut throat football can be don’t take a move when you stock is high and before you know it you could be out of work.

The manager who brought us the best team in the club’s modern era lacks a wow factor but Leam Richardson and Neil Lennon don’t?

I wonder if some of our fans have forgotten how good we had it.

I wouldn’t blame any new manager, whoever it is, should we be relegated.

I’d blame KR, TW and the board, they‘re all accountable and culpable, not whoever takes over now.

Still torn between Richardson and Appleton. The primary focus above all else is survival this season. It would be a disaster for our ambitions if we get relegated this season.
I believe both would do a decent job at shaking the team up.

Head says Richardson, heart says Appleton.

What are your thoughts on MAPP returning Kip?
A good and fair point. A real mixed bag for me.

He is not the man to come in and change results quickly. But what he did with us last time, and with Lincoln in his first season, was amazing.

But he has achieved sod all elsewhere. It's a risk.

Appleton is odds on now at virtually any place that’ll take your bet. 10/11 now which is some way ahead of the next best at 4’s or even 5’s. Suspect there’s legs to it now and he’s the obvious candidate.

He wouldn’t be my first choice but I’d be in no way disappointed at all. I’d love to see him back here and I’d be greatly excited about our long term prospects.

My only reservation is whether he can plug all the holes in this sinking ship. He’s certainly the right character, we have a clutch of players he will like and my doubts are somewhat mitigated by the weird sense of continuity we’d have - it would all feel warm, fuzzy and familiar which is just what we need. No time for ice-breakers.

Impossible to ignore him stood there at our door without a job. I’d give him huge credit for wanting to walk in to this and dig us out of this mess we’re in when it would be far easier to wait until summer. If he wants this challenge, get him in and let’s go.

f**k it... changed my vote. He's now the fan's favourite.

Appleton's Yellow Army!!

Get him in before Lincoln, it would be a perfect recipe for a new manager bounce vs an ex team
