Chris Maguire

Just been reading the Bury fans forum and it seems quite a few want rid of Maguire, seems he has not endeared himself to some of the team, perhaps they don’t get his sense of humour. Bring him back I say.

I’d drive from my home in Dorset to go and pick him up. I was gutted when he left. He’s a class act, just depends if Pep can get the same out of him that Appleton did. MApp has worked with him before and seemed to have him sussed.

Faz and Chrissey are still at the club and know how to get the best out of him. I’d certainly acquire and see if we could bring him in during this window!!

He's a match-winner, free kick specialist, and great penalty taker. All things we are currently missing. He's also a character who would get people going.

The jury seems to be out on this one. As I said last week, I would have him back ASAP. By and large the fans loved him. just the man to have around on a drab day like yesterday. Could not concentrate on the football ( what there was of it) due to the biting cold. Would it work second time around? Nobody knows. Did it work with Hugh Curran, Joey Beauchamp, Paul Moody, David Ford.............well, sort of. I think there is a groundswell of support for his return. Here's hoping!!

Certainly worked with Joey.

Maguire is one of my favourite player of the last few seasons, a joy to watch him at times. One of the best free kick specialists I’ve seen in a yellow shirt.

Bury still appear to be splashing the cash so it might worth asking if he’s available on loan to the end of the season. There are lots of loan deals done where both clubs contribute to a players salary, especially when the player is earning plenty and not currently playing.

Don't get me wrong I liked Mags too esp. his penalties self belief but he was also a very marmite player when he first came here. On his form here he could ask for 3.5 k a week and upwards ..but now who knows.

Trouble being I think he’s getting double that at bury. Hence why he was happy to go there and sign a 2 year deal.

I heard his wages went from 1.2 k a week with us to 4 k with bury. Now I like the bloke but not that much.

I liked Maguire when he was with us. But one thing we all said at the time was that he slowed play down and had little pace himself. That's a problem we have to address rather than add to IMO. Also I think he is a bit of a 'luxury' player - not the hardest working and could drift out of games for half an hour at a time. He does have a certain 'spark' that the team is missing at the moment, his free kicks were excellent and he got the crowd going though! Academic discussion, I suspect - I doubt he would come back (money talks, he has another 18 months on his contract and he is nearer his family, playing or not).

Absolutely no way would he have Beene earning as little as £60,000 per annum with us. At least double that I'd have thought.

£3.5k a week I heard. Now on over £6k a week with bonuses at bury for 2 years

I did say at least double Dave. None of us really know for sure, but one thing I do know is that £6,000 per week is absolutely crazy money for Bury to be paying. No wonder they have to shake the buckets at about this time every year!

And they are still adding more in this window. Their wage bill must be enormous
