Some of the abuse Mitchell got today was embarrassing to listen to. The moaners need to accept he won't be playing it long down the middle, no matter how loudly and swearily the protest. He's being asked kick it there by the manger

Had a toastie and calmed down and can now write more lucidly about the game. It's the first time I've seen them play having listened to Jerome and co up to now.

The commentators said that both of these sides would be looking at the playoffs this season. No chance for either. Both will be finishing lower than 12th place and both will be nervously looking over their shoulder for most of the season, I feel.

Oxford had the first half and Coventry resoundingly took the second (a late switch off excepted from them). They pressed and harried better, knew when to draw a foul and their midfield and defence played evenly shutting out any clear chances for us. I maintain that they didn't really look like creating anything clear cut until their fortunate opener, but on balance of play they deserved something. They seemed to go up a gear after the break whereas Oxford remained one-paced. The subs were too late to influence things and with an earlier deployment of them then that penalty which was ultimately the winner may never have happened.

Too many off days for us, maybe? I didn't think Holmes, Browne and Mackie covered themselves in glory at all. Our set pieces were terrible and vastly improved with Garbutt sending them in.

MOTM by a mile was Baptiste. He was excellent and I breathe a sigh of relief that we're in contract talks with him. He's more exposed now so we'll see the scouts looking at him and teams preparing themselves for him too.

There's evident talent in that Oxford side, but it feels like a jigsaw missing some pieces. There's no focal point up front, we're lopsided with our fullbacks as it's so obvious we'll attack down the right but rarely the left and we lack grit in the midfield (Brannagan is a far-cry from Ledson, he fouls a lot). There's no much we can do about that other than look at half-fit freebies (nothing new there!) or wait for the injured to return. Something tells me it'll take a while for this team to improve.

A final nod to the referee. Decent performance, I thought. I agreed with most that he blew up for and he allowed a flow to the game. No complaints about the penalty.

We played a poor team but tragically we were worse which didn’t look good for Oxford. At this rate Robbo and Derry will be gone before Xmas..

Also heard from a very reliable source Kuntsam has now said office staff can not start at until certain times, he has also banned them from their kitchen which makes me wonder whats upset that t**t now, he’s is going to finish this club at this rate. I hope Tiger has some very powerful and wealthy friends more wealth than that t**t has and make him an offer he can’t refuse and get the stadium off him

Came here to write exactly this. Any idiot who ironically cheered when he hit a goal kick straight, what exactly is the point? To sap the confidence of our own goalkeeper? Utterly brainless.

Thought the Coventry #10 was very good. My MOTM.

Enjoyed the Coventry fans at the top right of their stand’s reaction to the first goal. Big group of (what looked like) 15 year olds immediately turning to the rest of the north stand and giving it the big ‘un... only not a single oxford fan was responding and they looked pretty stupid leaping around like extras from Green Street at some cross armed, uninterested Yellows. Mugs.

Agree . Also think some of our supporters are too thick to realise that when we are against the wind we kick the ball straight down the middle and the opposing team send 1 booming header downfield and behind our defence we could be in trouble. That said we do miss Eastwood.

I hear you. We played some decent football which was often pleasing on the eye. But. We simply had no cutting edge or ruthlessness in the final third - it's Pep Clotet all over again. Coventry themselves have hardly set the league alight, we should be beating them at home!
er...Pep had us 10th when he was sacked. Wake up mate. In hindsight Pep did a most excellent job compared to KR/SD/Tiger (to date)...

There were 1/2 doz or so Coventry teenagers giving it large outside the revolving door of the quad. Real hard men, but where the f**k were the stewards it’s their responsibility to ensure safety in this case their safety. But I suppose those art of idiots are everywhere.

As a text I n Radox pointed out 5yard passes aren’t always going to work. I have moaned in the past about my next point and I’m going img t moan again “ what the f**k are these continuous passes along our defence all about “ we almost got caught out again. And the free kick in the 2nd half Mitchell comes right out of goal to take it almost gets there and Nelson takes yes and again along the back line with a gaping goal. Come on Robbo sort it out.

It was very poor, there is no doubt about it. However, with 4 first teamers to come in I feel results will improve. Lose badly in next week's "local" derby....then events might move very quickly indeed. 4 out of 24 just does not cut it.

They did a proper job on Marcus Browne early on.
It appears the instruction to each of players was make sure your first challenge on him is strong and do not let him start any run. The foul by Junior Brown was deliberate and the force intentional with no attempt to get the ball.
Neither Shipley's or Brown's deserved a red but it is frustrating it looked like it was a specific instruction.
It seemed the tactic worked and put Browne right off his game.

To cap it all it's pissing down here on the Costa del Sol. Will be ordering a pizza delivery as the restaurants are all shut.

A very disappointing afternoon.

I thought we were OK for the first 20 minutes without really threatening, but the wheels came off big-time. What was all that ludicrous passing along the back line? It achieved precisely nothing apart from getting ourselves in trouble occasionally. How slow was any attempted build-up? Glacial. For a team who apparently are supposed to play with width, we have very little - and did one of our players attempt to go past one of theirs out wide all afternoon and get a decent cross in? No. Two shots on target all afternoon from us. Not good enough. Substitutions? Too late and IMO wrong. It;s no good Robinson saying it's difficult to manage from the stands - he got himself put there.

No pace, no passion, no creativity. Absolute rubbish.

The one shining exception: Baptiste - our best player by a country mile. Some of the more experienced professionals ought to look at him and then take a long look at themselves.

Chant of the day from Coventry fans .." YOU MUST BE S**T COS WE'RE WINNING 2 - 0" - says it all really.

Chant of the day for me was “have you ever seen your dick” at the big fat gobby t**t sat behind me in the north stand. Embarrassing prick all the game, deserved the stick he got from the cov fans.

But that’s one of the problems that has me pulling my hair out. Why are the opposition always so much more streetwise than us?! I didn’t really rate their centreforward but, bloody hell, how we were crying out for someone up front who could hold on to the ball, draw the foul and/or con a cheap free kick out of the ref to ease the pressure. Granted, we o play some pretty stuff at times but we continually get turned over by more ‘professional’ outfits.

We started strongly but faded ever so quickly towards the end of the first half and then totally disappeared in the second. I fear we’re mentally naive and weak. Perhaps a symptom of the Premier League academies? When we are given the space and time to express ourselves, we play some fantastic, beautiful football. BUT, as soon as we are closed down, pressed, and harried, we fall to pieces. We struggle to cope with the ugly elements of men’s football. The physicality often just isn’t there. We get bullied off the ball and we struggle come up with a reply. The number of times we hold off the opposing man, refusing to put a foot in or tackle, perhaps through fear of being booked or fouling the player, it’s infuriating. Likewise, in attack our players seem frightened to take a risk and actually shoot. There is so much fear in the squad at the moment.

We lack a mental fortitude that would allow us to see out more difficult periods of play. As soon as we perceive the tide to have turned, we buckle under the pressure. Ironically, it’s some of the least experienced players in our squad who seem least susceptible to this, namely Baptiste.

Hard lessons need to be learned, and fast. We need to be nasty at times. The defence in particular often seem to shy away from putting a foot in and instead just back off and back off. We can’t always do things the pretty way, sometimes we need to be ruthless and take risks.

Its always awkward when you play teams in a cup then the league so close together very rarely will a side win both. 1 manager usually gleans something from the 1st defeat and think Mark Robins managed his team better than karl did ours this time around they made a sub at half time which seemed to work well for them as I didnt think we were too bad 1st half
