Odds on favourite now…
Yeah, odds at this stage mean very little because people try to beat the market & the max payout in a bet like that with BetVictor is £2000 anyway. He’s kinda the obvious choice and was a big price as well. I wouldn’t say no to him coming back, if he had the backing Robinson got he would have got us promoted & given how short life is, especially with what he’s been through, maybe he would fancy coming back here and see it as unfinished business. Some clubs suit certain managers and vice versa

There must be I guess but are there any obvious examples, in the lower leagues, of a manager returning and repeating his earlier success ie: promotion ?

Nathan Jones did well at Luton, left to go to Stoke, then came back and did another good job with Luton, then went to Southampton, which was probably a step to far.

Some managers are just suited to certain clubs.

Hoping for someone new and exciting to be unveiled by the board (maybe flex their commitment to the club, financial muscle and ambition)

But would I get excited if they announce Appleton... Yes I would! (but I agree with other posters, this is the romantic fans choice)

I would be gutted by seeing some of the names thrown around by BetVictor arrive here

If it was someone coming in until the end of the season I can’t think of anyone better the MAPP.

It's worth remembering that BetVictor's early lists for most L1/L2 jobs generally contain the same names plus a few with direct/easy links to the hiring clubs.

Hence the likes of Campbell, Hill, Beech being on there.

The only real downward moves since opened last night are Appleton and Cotterill.

Critchley/McCann and everyone who began between 6/1 and 10/1 have moved out to 12/1 minimum.

Takes such little money to impact these markets. To the extent that a group of mates managed to get one of them as 2/1 favourite for the Notts County job in the summer by claiming he was a young up and coming manager in the Swedish lower leagues.

Appleton built the best team we have had since the mid 90's. I'd have him back in a heartbeat. I think he's learnt not to job hop now. Plus, I think this 'project' would be big enough to keep him with us for a good while. I liked the fact that he was always measured ,sensible and wouldn't take any s**t. I'd also like to see Murphy explain to him that he didn't fancy playing this week.

This is a similar time to the season when we appointed Ron Saunders, precarious league position, shortage of goals, a handful of games or so to go. Ron saved us, John Shuker scored a few, we stayed up. Ron got noticed and went on to greater things, was Norwich the first step? We need a present day Ron Saunders and John Shuker in the short term. I have no depth of football knowledge to suggest how this can happen. but lets get it done quickly.

He has to think about it carefully, one more f**k up and his career is surely over
