In no particular order Dennis Kutrieb, Luke Garrard, and Des Buckingham are all the type of young progressive managers that we should look at to work under a D of F. All have had success in different environments, bring through young players, and play an attractive brand of football. I'd suspect all would jump at the chance to manage Oxford United.

That's not an exhaustive list, and I think we might need a Red Adair in for this season first.

I’ll throw 3 random names out there too.

Matt Gray - Sutton manager

Ian Foster - England u20s

Darren Fletcher - Man Utd coach

At the risk of sounding sexist I’m not sure we’re in the position to go that experimental.

Although I would be for it over some of the names being banded about on here today. I’m surprised nobody has mentioned prising Paul Ince from Reading… 🙄
It’s not sexist, and I’m not saying we should employ a female coach but it’s going to happen somewhere, someday. But Paul f*****g Ince? Not a chance!

Whatever happens from now on, I think as a club, we should have a rule that if you’ve won nothing in three years you’re gone.

Many Wigan fans wanted him sacked and cited the style of play as the reason.

I totally disagree with your comparison of Wigan and Wednesday’s styles and method of ball progression, beyond them being physical, but that’s ok it’s a game of opinions.

It doesn’t change my opinion that it would be a bad fit, as many Oxford fans wouldn’t like what they were being served. We saw it under Atkins, we saw it under Wilder. Pragmatic winning football doesn’t seem to wash.
I think we disagree on the term "many", social media certainly portrays your "many" as an extreme minority opinion at the time.

Ball progression adapts on a game by game basis, I assume you have not watched every Wednesday game this season nor every Wigan game in their title winning season. If you cherry picked certain games they can look very different which is understandable. So like I said, recruiting the way they did allows adaptability which I want from our next manager.

We’re in agreement then, but I hope we recruit someone whose core footballing philosophy is a bit more innovative than LR, otherwise I’m not sure it would be a great fit.

Totally agree re recruitment, we need to be going after players of a totally different physical profile

You do realise we've had just 5 promotions or trophies since I started supporting Oxford in 1984/85? It's hardly a trophy every 3 years kind of club...
You lucky bastard! I’ve witnessed 3 promotions and 3 relegations along with the JPT final defeats in 28 years and the 1st promotion was the 1st year I started going to games with my dad and thought it was like that all the time…oh how I’ve lived a disappointed life as a football fan since!

I know. But we need to avoid everything going so stale! Chris Wilder had it bang on with his ‘my car drove itself to the training ground in the end’ quote - and he actually achieved something! 😁

Everybody - players and supporters - just get fed up hearing the same voice in the end. Especially when it ends up being excuses

Yeah, scouring social media, it does seem that a lot of Wigan fans reacted with shock and disbelief when Richardson was sacked. Definitely a contrast with say KR here!

No one was shocked KR was sacked, well maybe shocked that the board finally grew a pair.

Wigan's owner like a lot of owners at the big clubs would of sacked Karl in October. We have a very loyal board/owners and that should be a huge attraction to any new manager coming in.

Kolo Toure was sacked after 2 months in charge at Wigan after Leam aswell. That just shows the owner/board they have.
