How to complete the season

With all the ongoing uncertainty is it time to think about fundraising for the club to safeguard not just survival but maintaining the areas of strength such as the academy. I appreciate most people are going through a tough time as well so it many not be possible but... could you get 5000 people to give £20, £100 to have your name on next seasons shirt x 1000 (if you remember the England shirt with tiny names built into the design), etc

I’m sure the club and others will already be thinking of fundraising / marketing initiatives. There will be a balancing act as many Ox fans will have difficult personal financial situations to resolve as a result of the crisis.

However hopefully those fortunate not to be affected financially will choose to buy a couple of extra things from the club shop, purchase some extra 50/50 tickets, attend a few more games than they usually would have etc.

As well intended as this is, it's a drop in the ocean towards our operating costs without any certainty of things ever getting back to 'normal'.

As for finishing the season at whatever cost, we need to consider the finances involved and what happens next. If there was the possibility of having a full, uninterrupted season for 20/21 but we had to sacrifice the last 9 games of this season, then that would make greater economical sense. However, I suspect that a full 20/21 season in it's current format will simply not be possible. So if you then consider shortening the coning season, do you shorten it even further to allow the current season to finish?

No one knows the answer, and won't for a number of months. Whilst we all love football and our club, there really are far more important things to be worrying about right now.

They would’ve played 1 more home game than us which is unfair which is why you have to apply average points home and away over 22 home and 22 away games.

So who's done the calculations? (Average points per home game * home games remaining) + (Average points per away game * away games remaining) + current points total. Where does that put Wycombe :)

Why not wait untl all squads and match officals can be tested for the virus or the antibodies and then play the games behind closed doors with all matches covered on TV and local radio? It's not perfect but they could get the season completed between mid May and end of June.

I have done the calculations and Wycombe have 17 points from 16 games at an average of 1.066 giving them a further 6.396from away games and a further 9.332 from their 4 home games giving them a further 15.728 points. We would get a further 15.917 points.
Nobody will know for certain though at this although I reckon my calculations would need to be at least 6% out to be wrong.
This is 1 of many methods available but is the fairest way to do it.

Some interesting ideas but the way things are going we are a long way from seeing any footy what ever is decided clubs will have reason to be unhappy
Think it will be voided is my thoughts

People need to stop dying before we even think about football

Exceptionally optimistic I would suggest.

And I would hope that once we are in a position to roll out antibody tests we don't waste them on a bunch of footballers who, in the greater scheme of things, matter very little.

I know this is a football forum and therefore the focus is naturally biased, but there is a real lack of rational thinking!

I think this will go on for another 3 months I have to self contain until me the end of June. It I can’t see it being given the all clear then, I do believe we may lie looking at September at the earliest.

bit of a leftfield/ unlikely, but perhaps a feasible way to complete the season ? - it would require the PL to relinquish some of its obscene fortunes to fund' immunity'/ already been exposed to CV19. blood tests for players, match officials etc - the tests currently not available (except privately) in the UK.... once tested as 'immune' play the remaining games, behind closed doors screened live on terrestrial tv (- Im f*****g bored beyond belief with constant screening of food/cooking programmes - when I couldn't, even if I wanted to, source some of the recipe ingridients- and property doing up for a profit programmes- yeah right, brilliant during a lockdown -and similar programmes being force fed on the small screen ) - by screening all the remaining games of this season , there could conceivably be as many as 5 or 6 matches per day played and screened, more with evening matches, and with live , competitive football on terrestrial tv, it would (IMO) keep some covidiots off the streets for most of the duration of all the seasons completion in both PL and EFL - as well as the national leagues too

Unlikely to happen, but nonetheless in principle, viable

The problem is if this season isn’t finished there will be so many legal challenges the next 1 won’t start.

Fools never differ!

Would we honestly want footballers tested ahead if the NHS, Police, Prison Officers and Carers who are working every day with those who are dying from this virus?

We talk about the money from Sky killing the game, with it's pampered millionaire footballers, but this would be the sickest joke going.

of course not.... but , with matches being played (daily) that would, imo, keep a lot of people OFF the streets thus making those at the sharp end more able to do their invaluable work

my youngest daughter, over in NI, is an evening /nighttime carer, visiting homes of the old, frail and vulnerable every night- she has gloves and sanitiser, and thats it in the way of employer provided PPE.... and no likelihood of being tested for some time soon

Why would 'football'funding private tests (which ARE available privately, and have been since before the onset of this pandemic) to eventually provide genuine entertainment, for the majority of the nation on tv & /or on radio, utilising some of the huge amounts of £ invested by various TV companies in |UK football to in reality provide both entertainment and a live sport that would appeal to many for everyone- in case you've missed it, a number of higher level pro' footballers have already been privately tested btw- to provide something that would in all likelihood keep many 'at home' instead of on the streets be the sickest joke going? - getting people to actually stay at home is one of the ways to ensure this pandemic and its impact is minimised.... of course we could all carry on as we are, with many many covidiots gallivanting here there n everywhere spreading cv19 virus widely .... I know which Id prefer

By mid May the Government claims that we will be testing 250,000 a week so testing a few footballers is hardly going to stop the NHS, Police officers and carers etc getting tested. If it was was funded privately by the clubs or football authorties I don't see the problem. At some point we will have to plan for a gradual return to normality and this seems like a relatively safe step in that direction which will also help to improve the mental well being of sizable chunk of the population.

Maybe I'm a little sensitive as I am currently working somewhere with confirmed cases of covid-19, with little in the way of PPE, and very little chance of self isolating! My mental wellbeing, and that of the vast majority of essential workers will improve when our lives, and the lives of our loved ones, are no longer at risk.

Football is just a game, and although I am passionate about it and our club, I really think it is beyond stupidity to think that a few games behind closed doors will solve all our wows.

When it is safe to return, for everyone, then let's bring it back and support our team in greater numbers than before. But until then please put things into a little perspective?
