OUFC Women: 2023/24 Season

Try and get along to support this team you won’t be disappointed.

I wonder what it would take to get these games streamed. Surely the technology is already in place, even at Court Place Farm..?

As an ex-pat, I'd be VERY interested to watch the rise and rise of OUWFC from afar.

Good 3-2 away win at Chatham Town after being a goal down at HT today for the first team to move into 4th place.

The Development team continued their phenomenal form beating Rugby Borough 7-0 remaining clear at the top of the league.

The Women's team won at Plymouth to make it 6 wins in a row in the league. Zoe Barratt netted another hattrick - consecutive hattricks in league - to take her total to 20 this season. Thankfully she is signed for another season.

The Devs won 4-0 away to Watford in the QF of the Reserve Team Cup, we are the current holders.

Semi final against Hashtag Utd or AFC Bournemouth. Correction - at home to Durham on Sunday 25th February.

Still topping their league and also into the SF of the County Cup, most successful team at the club

4-1 away win at London Bees today, league leaders Portsmouth at home next Sunday (11/2).

1-0 home win for the Devs against Watford
good performance in bad weather. Jenna Legg scored twice and set up Zoe Barrett for her (inevitable) goal, Kate Wiseman with the other.
Next weekend (Sunday) is a big match v league leaders Portsmouth. U's are 8 points behind with 9 games left, they are on a run of 7 consecutive league wins in a row.

Do you think there is a realistic possibility of catching the leaders or did they leave themselves too much to do with the slow start?

Pompey started on fire, and although they have slowed a bit (they are winning by 1 or 2 rather than 7 or 9) they are still picking up wins (W12D0L1). Their top scorer this season with 16 in 17 games is ex-U Beth Lumsden, and they have 3 other players on more than 10 goals.

U's winning on Sunday could give them a wobble, and we could win the rest of our games (the Pompey game and and upcoming trip to Hashtag Utd are the biggest left), but I would think that Pompey have too much to be overtaken. The manager leaving on the eve of the season killed the start of our season, and therefore likely any chance of us challenging for promotion this year (only 1 goes up). For the future luckily we have Zoe Barrett signed up for next season (20 goals in 18 games).

Cecily Wellesley-Smith played for England Under 17’s in a 3-1 win against the Netherlands on Saturday and then was an unused substitute against the Philippines in a 2-0 win yesterday.
Final against Scotland on Thursday 10am in Spain,Pinatar Stadium.

She is a fantastic footballer for 16/17 - hopefully we can hold onto her for next season.

It’s going to be very difficult to keep top young talent with the likes of Newcastle Utd Women offering full time football and very decent money.
I think Beth leaving Portsmouth for the North East is evidence of that.(undisclosed fee)

Going back to the league massive game Sunday against league leaders Portsmouth with new signing Daisy Mac.
Must win game for us to move within 5 pts.
Portsmouth still have tough games against Ipswich,Rugby and away at MK Dons but probably asking a lot for them to bottle it.

Hadn't noticed they had bought her. They are really going for promotion.

Big game in Northern league this weekend as well ,Newcastle travel to Burnley 1st v 3rd if Burnley win that starts to get very tight with Nottingham Forest also in the mix.

Always a shame in these single promotion leagues when one side disappears off into the distance (but at least they'll definitely go up and not have to play off against the northern winners).

How have they come so good this time, don't remember them being in the fight last season?

Good news today - three more players have extended their contracts until the end of season 2025. This is in addition to ZB9.
That Sam Rose is doing a great job!
