How to complete the season

I'm hearing it might take a few more days for High Wycombeshire Wonderers' cheque to clear. It's only then that the Football League will decide whether their bid is high enough to allow their entry into the Championship.

It's a tough one really, because the Championship is supposed to be for professional football teams only.

Nevertheless, every single one of Wycombe's fans have donated £1 to a crowdfunding project and it is hoped that the £400 bid will get them over the line.

As much as that? Really

Much has been made of this game in hand that Wycombe have, and whether the Coventry game could/should have been played in February.
I have therefore calculated what would have happened to the weighted PPG table given the three potential results..

..... Putting aside partisan views, if this game had been played on Feb 11th (when neither side had a game), then WW would have been 3rd, one point behind Cov in 2nd, but having played two more games, both having won their last two against lower table opposition. Without recalculating for that point in time, the current wppg table shows that Cov had the 5th best home record and WW the 14th best away record, so it is probably fair to say that the most likely outcome would have been either a home win or a draw....there would be a chance of an away win, but it would probably be the least likely outome of the three.

If Coventry had won, then Wycombe would be in 8th in the current table, 7th on PPG, and drop to 7th (from 6th) on WPPG
If it had been a draw, then Wycombe would be 6th in the current table (on GD), 6th on PPG, but ALSO DROP to 7th on WPPG and not in the playoffs.
Only if Wycombe had won would they be still in the conversation, moving up to 3rd on all fronts.

For comparison, if Oxford had played one game less in February, then:
If we had not gone to Burton and got the draw, then we would be 6th in the current table (with game in hand), 3rd on PPG (both ahead of WW on GD) and 3rd on WPPG
IF we had not played one of our home wins against Accrington or Wimbledon, then we would be 8th in the current table (with game in hand), 7th on PPG, and 5th on WPPG (ahead of Wyc on GD)

So if they had gone away that day and drawn, and we had not gone away that day - we would still be ahead of them
Also, we benefitted from playing our spare game in Feb (home to bottom 6 side), whereas WW have benefitted from not doing so (away to top side).

Troy Deeney has refused to train....................... expect plenty of others to do the same especially amongst the BAME players as there is a higher clinical risk for them.

Simon Jordan put the dilemma on this quite well on Newsnight. Players can refuse to play but they expect full pay whilst football clubs will have no income. He also pointed out that footballers would be under an incredibly good testing regime as required under the plans put forward. He also said they should only be coming back in July as it is still too early.

The other side of this is that warehouse workers, cleaners, hairdressers etc etc won't have the testing regime that footballers will have.

Also the aforementioned workers will likely have no job if they decide not to turn up.

6 positive tests in the Premier League. Football is not getting played until their is a vaccine.

Considering there are hundreds of players and club staff, six is actually a positive number (if you'll pardon the pun), so long as they've tested and got the results back before players started resuming training in clusters.

Six now how many after the next tests? Selfish bastards do the right thing and call a halt to the season.

But the rest of us can work?

We might as well wind up lower league football if we are waiting for a vaccine.

Ive worked during all of this. The difference is we can socially distance. Footballers can not socially distance during a match. That’s why it is a stupid idea for matches to return.

A total of 748 players and staff from 19 clubs were tested it says. So if 3 clubs are "hotspots" they could argue they will lose too many players and/or their opponents could say stuff that we aren`t playing them.
More results due later in the week could finish off "Project Restart".

A lot of jobs have gone back, I doubt it’s possible for all of them to social distance (building sites for example), highly doubt all of them who can really do.

If they tested and isolated that’s a lot safer than those, like me and you, who have worked through this.
