How to complete the season

So what?
And at what price in terms of dead people?
Suddenly "money" doesn`t matter and lots of spreadsheets are being reset to zero.
This is Global and could just as easily come back quickly and everything we are currently doing will be for nothing.

It explains why the PL aren't making this season null and void and will keep extending.

This season isn't over.
Correct and I was very reliably informed by someone senior at the club that the behind closed doors is the favoured method so that the season gets completed asap whilst the 'no mass gatherings' restriction is still in place. Otherwise the season gets further delayed (possibly for months) and it's harder to finish it.

If that were the case, a couple of questions about iFollow. I use it fairly often as I can't get to many games but:

  1. Do you think they would give it free to season ticket holders for behind closed doors games?
  2. I wonder if it has the capacity to stream effectively for the increased volume of subscribers that would likely happen.

point 2, very good Q @bert ... iFollow isn't very stable in 'usual' times , nevermind if the demand was to be ten/ hundred/ thousand, times higher!

1. Yes - the intention is free to view for ST holders which no doubt will be used as a 'fulfilment of contract' argument - fine with me given the circumstances

2. Well I rather hope iFollow have considered this and are putting that in place - they have plenty of notice! Upgrading tech infrastructure capabilities is actually pretty easy especially given the timescales they have to implement it. The huge increased revenue they'll receive also make it a business case no-brainer.

We have behind closed doors now But people still choose to go to the parks

As i've said previously on this i don't see the casuals or normal on the day walk ups bothering...it would be exactly the same as if able to attend where much depends on the opposition. That's even without the many ways of being able to watch a game.

Clubs may look at it as better some income than none at all. Also, if advertised on social media well enough then casuals or walk up on the day may be interested as people are getting pretty bored already with weeks to go.

I agree, they could get quite good uptake. Only problem might be the frequency of games for those who are on reduced wages even though it is cheaper than match day prices. I wonder if they could do a bundle for the rest of the season to reduce the price a bit but bring some cash in for the club.

If anyone is thinking of watching, I have to say the few games I've seen on ifollow have been good. Even remember enjoying one of tinpot trophy games where the crowd was so small it resembled a game with no fans. I think it helps that BBC Oxford do the commentary and hopefully they'll be able to if we do finish the season in this way.

TBH I'd pay to watch my lad win the champions league with Oxford on Fifa 20 again at the moment.

there's also the iFollow option , for those outside of BBC radio Oxford's FM broadcast area, of 'live' ( half a minute to 45 secs behind - as iFollow visual coverage tends to be- real time), commentary ( as in just commentary) available too ... which was, probably still is(?) £2.50 per game .... which those furloughed, or awaiting their turn to actually speak to the Universal credit 'hotline' to get in the system to then wait 5 weeks (probably more tbh) to receive thier £94 per week or for that matter any U's supporters financially hamstrung for whatever reason due to CV19.... may choose to opt for to get their football fix , ( should behind closed doors games indeed be how the FA/PL/EFL choose to finish this season using), while on a very, very limited budget

Its not happening. The Open has just been cancelled......that is in JULY.................. are you folk getting the message yet?
Closed doors.............. no. Resources needed, not happening, won`t be back to normal.
Start in July..................no. We won`t be back to normal.

This season is finished the powers that be just need to sort out the curtailed seasons outcome.

Sadly, I find myself in agreement with this. The continual postponement of any decision typifies the ineptitude of the EFL. Time to bite the bullet and get the decision made. As for the PL and the £millions they will have to refund the broadcasters, well, they got greedy and it's come back to bite them.

playing the devils advocate role here ... huge (annual) events such as the Open , Wimbledon , Glastonbury festival, among others, due to the sheer size of numbers they attract, and also require a sizable infrastructure of all manner of logistical, operational and security/ safety to be planned and starting to be put in place several months before the event itself takes place, given the predictions by experts is CV19 pandemic is set to peak next weekend, and the peak is more than likely to last 10-14 days, before slowly heading downwards over the next 4-6-8 weeks, it makes sense to cancel , additionally factor in that most big annual events tend to invariable sell out in well in advance, finances and financial implications will also come into consideration. Especially with many furloughed, on reduced income, or even self employed who unless currently working not due any £ until June the earliest, there ain't much in the way of disposable income available for spending on such events. No promoter worthy of the title would gamble on holding any sizable event at a definite loss this summer.

As for normal - its subjective what constitutes normal now, nevermind what will be percieved as normal will actually be in the not too distant future

as the old 60s song goes, times they are a changin'

apart from the likes of 'lord snooty' Jacob Reece- Mogg who looks set to clean up (yet again) via his questionable financial practices, no one knows how long the lockdown will continue, nor the practicalities of any sport starting up nor when, despite what right wing leaning, red top tabloids owned by tax avoiding exiles suggest, imply or claim is 'fact'

Careful now - people will get upset at you for pointing out the obvious. Namely that while this is an unprecedented event, they’re managing to do absolutely and precisely nothing but kick the can and shove their heads underground. Times being hard doesn’t automatically mean that anything they do should be applauded and their situation should see them pitied. You want the perks, the pay packets and the pensions, you figure out a way to work through it. Or at the very least, just communicate clearly and regularly. That would be a start, but they can’t even do that.

I see the FA have cancelled the meeting they were meant to be having tomorrow to ratify the entire non-league season being voided. The authorities and governing bodies in this country are beyond inept.

We haven`t reached anywhere near the peak yet, the reported numbers and consequential deaths lag by some distance. Easter will be the beginning of the "true levels" if you like but won`t necessarily be the "peak". Then you will get a plateau period so your upper estimate of 8 weeks is much more realistic before anyone considers normality in any way shape or form.................that`ll be June before its on the radar............... say another 6-8 weeks to "release and monitor"....... that`s August. ;)

Yep. Then factor in that it’ll take ages to get the players fit - they’re essentially going to have a six month break when even the existing summer break is only six weeks, and look how much work is needed to get them back on track after that. Bar one or two weeks of the summer break players are still doing daily fitness work at home as they have been for the last month at present. You just simply can’t replicate the detailed strength and conditioning that goes into training ground prep by doing workouts in the garden or at the park, and their diet won’t be as balanced to boot. So even when they’re allowed out, they then need to ensure they’re fit to play as their fitness is also imperative to injury prevention - it isn’t about them lasting 90 minutes, it’s about them not all tearing hamstrings and groins by being lobbed back in recklessly.

But sure, let’s get the season finished.
