Away Match Day Thread +++ 10/11/2018 Forest Green Rovers v OUFC FAC1 +++

Disappointing result from what sounded like a drab, forgettable game.

KR bingo was well underway post match too - we got ‘lots of injuries’ and ‘rubbish ref’ in there.

I thought his comments on Smith revealed a lot. He feels he’s done everything he can off the pitch and now it’s up to the player to prove it on it. It was measured but it sounded like KR is underwhelmed by Smith’s performance. Is Smith the wrong player for us, being utilised incorrectly or just not all that good?

A game that illustrated more of what we know. Defence is alright, strike options are lacking therefore we don’t score many.

I thought tactically Robbo was outdone by Cooper. Just after we changed it Cooper changed his shape and we looked clueless from then on. Good management by Cooper.

What a waste of an afternoon.
Some of those players are really lacking in confidence. Plus, lack of off the ball movement and some awful passing, combined to make us look very poor.

Hanson looks like the least confident player I’ve seen for a long time. I was certainly clapping his smaller contributions coz that boy needs some support right now. A great player I’m sure but he needs an arm round him.

Agreed. He really hasn’t got going yet. It’s all been a bit stop-start for him here so far but he seems to be trying too hard. He needs to relax and concentrate on the simple stuff and hopefully it’ll come.

There must be a good player in there somewhere, I wonder if Robinson’s comments about him being his most expensive signing are weighing on him a bit. Thank god for Mous stepping up in midfield to take the pressure off him a bit. Hanson, along with Smith and Garbutt, has to realise he’s in a mans world now, there’s no hiding place any more.

A great player? That might be a bit over the top.

Worrying if his confidence has sunk so low after such a short spell, however poor, football like all sports is about mental toughness as well as the physical aspects, an arm round the shoulder is a temporary measure really, players need to be able push themselves on.

Hopefully he is just one 25 yard blast in the top hand corner away from being effective at this level, a big goal can boost a player more than anything else, but it is a bit of a worry what with him being on a 4 year contract.

Thought Hanson did ok after a mad 5mins when he came on clattered one of theirs late mid shin first off pinged one straight out of play then another professional foul after losing it. Lucky boy but he made some quick sharp passes after that and one classy diagonal was willing him to try a shot but elected to keep it simple.

Horrible afternoon but think we were by far the better footballing side dont want to have to watch that lg2 clogger standard of football again hopefully we move up the league soon.

A recurring theme unfortunately. For all his enthusiasm, i have eaten jacket potatoes with more tactical acumen than our Robbo.

Is Bradbury still on loan at Woking? Initial 1 month loan and never had his Loan extended when Armani Little did. If he isn't why wasn't he involved today? Got to be better then risking a 50% Mackie

He is cup tied. Played for Woking.

It was terrible.

From the first ten minutes (when we changed our system and then had to change it back), to the miss-hit passes, the constant going backwards, the pedestrian pace, the lack of any desire to beat a man (Whyte excepted), the lack of teamwork, non-movement off the ball, lack of challenge in midfield, Mousinho getting booked for gobbing off at the ref and then (breaking my own rule) I listened to a delusional, tactically inept manager speak B*****s afterwards on the radio. Again.

Is Smith a decent striker? I have no idea, he was never given the ball in a halfway decent position. Is Norman a left back? No. Is Nelson as good as he was before his injury? No. Are we still in the brown stuff so far as the organisation of the team, the tactics, fitness and teamwork are concerned? Yes.

A waste of time and money for all U's supporters that went IMO.

Sorry to be so frank - but Hanson is absolute dog shite. He's clearly not good enough, and continually fouls and moans at the ref. Not the kind of player I'd like at our club. P**s poor signing. Will be very happy to be proved wrong, but from what I've seen he is shocking - how did he make it as a pro?

People would have said the same about Mousinho last year, me included, and he has turned it around, give Hanson time and hopefully he can turn it around

The question we need to ask is was that abysmal performance just a blip or a sign of a return to early season form. Whether we had more possession or not FGR should have won that match had it not been for the post and their woeful finishing from 2 golden opportunities. I thought Brannegan worked hard and Whyte looked dangerous but he is still work in progress and needs to be able to finish his pacy runs with a decent cross more often. With few attacking options the only improvement for the replay will be the return of Holmes and Mackie if either are fit enough. Saturday’s game is far more important though and we need to see substantial improvement to secure 3 points.
