Lovely result.

Playing spot the ball was entertaining at times and some amusing chants.

No way was Cam Bran motm, whilst he scored a fantastic goal, he was poor at times throughout the game and well below what we know he can do. CB did improve markedly when playing the defensive midfielder role. On balance Yanic gets motm from me as he caused problems for both opposition centre-backs when at times isolated, held the ball up pretty well and scored a great goal showing determination, strength and skill.

Also, a lot of credit to KR as by McKenna's own comments he was tactically out-thought by KR.

Credit to KR for his tactics today. I feared the worst (I was at Ipswich). Fair play.
I’d disagree with that, somewhat.
Having just watched the game ,although 4 hours or so late.
We’ve been built for our shape today from almost the first game of the season.
And wildschut up front is a admission to what I said the other day
We have no real forwards.
Although nearly 5 months late, Robinson somehow got it right today.

Not sure that is fair. Even Robinson said that there's a huge difference between playing Long and Brown as your wing backs, and Anderson and Fleming who played there today. Also I thought Wildschut played that lone striker role much better than Taylor has for 12 months, and with a bit more experience and know how than we've seen from GO'D so far. I agree that we've got to this position by default, but that doesn't take away from the credit in Robinson making the changes for today's game.

One of the biggest results we've had at this level and I'm very pleased with the performance. Robinson for the first time in a long while made some significant changes to the system and it further paid off. Ipswich were poor by their standards but created 3 very decent chances either side of the break that they should've buried. We rode our luck on these occasions yet for the rest of the game actually looked comfortable. I went down to the front for the last 20 minutes to try and actually see something and was fortunate to get a great view of Brannagan's goal and it truly was a perfect strike after some excellent work by on the wing to keep the move alive. It's a great result to build upon and if we can get 4-6 points from our next two away games then we may have something to play for. Hopefully it'll give Robinson a nudge to dip into the transfer market.

Player Ratings:

Eastwood: 8 - Made some good saves in tough conditions

Fleming: 7 - Promising start

Brown: 7 - Solid enough

Moore: 7 - Won plenty of headers

Long: 6 - Bit shaky at times and caught out of position a few times

Anderson: 6 - Not really a game for him. I actually think, somewhat counterintuitively, that he’s better at right back where he can attack from deep, rather than any further forwards

McGuane: 6 - His form has just dropped off a little bit recently, I think pitches and conditions haven’t really helped him

Brannagan: 8 - Worked hard and a great goal

Bate: 7 - Hard for him to play his usual passing game in the conditions, but ran hard as ever

Bodin: 4 - Didn’t really do anything

Wildschut: 8 - If we’d signed him in Jan as a central striker you’d be massively impressed, he won headers, beasted the centre backs and scored a great goal
Credit to the back line today, Davis and Burns nowhere near the threat they did at their place.
McGaune, Brannagan and Bate bossed their midfield 2 and stopped the threat

Wow 3 points I didn’t expect and tbh neither did many of you or any of you.
Starting line up was a mystery and I thought Bodin was the loan strike but it was Wildschut can’t wait until I see the highlights to see his goal, but I saw the winner wow Cam what a beaut.
I feel embarrassed as I said before the Fleetwood game that the next 3 games Inckuding Ipswich and Wycombe that I couldn’t see where we would get any points from? But we’ve got 6 yippee now for the final 3 for my embarrassment non Tuesday please.
Heard the Ipswich manager said that he didn’t expect the way we played today and that they could not cope, a nice bit of praise indeed.
Well done OUFC that’s all of you.
I said 4 maybe 6 so hanging on.
But hopefully proved wrong again

Haha.

The last fifteen minutes after the winning goal had an odd lack of tension from the East Stand as you could see nothing and therefore had no idea if Ipswich were getting close to scoring!

You basically just had to listen out for the reactions of the away fans - thankfully no significant cheering from them in the second half.

Silence was golden.

I would pay good money to see some footage from the away end of when the winner goes in - both to see what they could make out - but more-so (hopefully) the roar of the home crowd before they really know it's happened.

The double-whammy of conceding combined with the lack of clarity would be delicious.

Ideally followed immediately by the clacking of a few retracting plastic seats too.

Wildschut looked the part playing as the 'big man up top' today, something that we've badly needed for years. His goal was absolutely brilliant. Held Woolfenden off superbly in the first place, brilliant touch and roll, got a bit of fortune but his presence and determination helped him bundle it through Donacien, swats Woolfenden to the floor and then he shimmies away from Burgess and finishes nicely under the keeper. The bloke is a bulldozer but with some skill to him too.

If Joseph is fit enough to start, then I'd hope he could come in for Bodin and keep the rest of the team the same for Wycombe. In fact, just keep it for the foreseeable as it worked pretty well today against a side that didn't seem as good as their league position would suggest, although they obviously had a lot of talent.

Once again really decent 3 points today, apologies for my earlier ramblings,
But the Guinness and fending off that gas lot took over.
A real back bone to build on today, so anticipating a far better 2nd half to the season.

According to "the internet"..............

Kieran McKenna says he and Karl Robinson agreed that game should be called off on 74 mins due to the fog.

Referee Bobby Madden said result would have to stand if that was the case (as clock had now reached 75), so two bosses agreed to play on.

Good call! (y)

A good call for the U’s fans but not a good call for the tractor boys.🤣🤣🤣

The referee’s job was made much, much easier by the game being a all-square for most of the second half.

It would have been farcical if either team has been losing about the 70 minute mark. Both teams and fans would have been arguing for a postponement, understandably.
