Home Match Day Thread 8/10/22 L1 : OUFC v Wycombe Wanderers

One thing I haven’t really seen or heard mentioned thus far - Wycombe beat us from the moment the game was stopped. Ainsworth changed things around slightly having seen how the opening 15 minted played out and sussed us. Jacobson even had a shot from the centre circle shortly after the restart that Eastwood had to backpedal for, because they had noticed that yet again he was miles off his line on a regular basis. They paid attention to the basic details and tweaked things, and no doubt he did so knowing that we wouldn’t change ourselves. As soon as the goal went in that was it - we weren’t winning. Ainsworth has Robinson’s number time and time again.
I did comment in this thread just before the restart that Wycombe's warm up seemed much better and intense than ours. It was almost as if our lot were sent out and told to knock the ball around for 10-15 mins, whereas Wycombe were doing lots of fast paced sessions and sprints etc. We have, what, 4 first team coaches now? Poor that not one of them didn't go out to lead a proper warm up session.

Maybe our manager is preoccupied

Wish Cam wouldn't say things like as he's been quoted in the OM today, 'we could have won 6-1'....their (very dodgy!) keeper made a couple of stops but most of our 29 shots went over the bar or fence or hit the bloody corner flag!
We were mostly rubbish and no amount of team bonding or togetherness helps the fact we can't hit a barn door at the moment!
Yes Cam shouldn't have got wound up by our own fan at the end of the game but he has to understand the frustrations around the club and supporters. Most fans love Cam however he plays, mainly for his ability, loyalty to us and his performances on the pitch, and will support him even when he misses a penalty! But it's not a good look for the club as a whole.
And I'm really not sure Murphy, Baldock and Wildschut coming back solves any of our problems! Karl is out of excuses now.
Poor squad recruitment, no proper full backs, no pace, no enforcer/tackler in midfield and no movement or width in our play. We can see it KR, why can't you?!

We can see it KR, why can't you?

More importantly, why can't the board see it?

I suspect they can, but they want to show some loyalty to him after the last few years and the rapport he built up with the club/fans and the area....but as that all seems to be dissipating and unraveling a bit after the events so far this season, maybe now is the time for our new powerful board and new people to show their clout and act decisively.....?

Losing the players we have due to loans, sales or moving on has boomeranged badly plus having players ruled out or a short squad all adds to the malaise. But it seems we aren't making the best of what we have really and now they are all showing a certain desparation. I am also sure that no-one we think of on here will be in the frame for the vacancy if it falls open.

Baldock and Wildschut are miles away from a return
Murphy was rushed back after a single training session
We really have to try to get the best out of what we have in the short term

But we are not and that's down to KR and his staff, I cannot remember in recent times us being so disjointed, something outside of the injuries is badly wrong with the playing side of our club.

That's very good news - I was immediately behind and it was genuinely distressing.

I can imagine.

I remember going to Blackburn last game of the season, and someone was having CPR performed on him. It was in a pub car park before the game. I wasn’t sure if he was a Blackburn Fan or OUFC fan, but it was very disturbing, and people were right there trying to see what happened, and what was happening.
I have no idea if the poor gentleman made a recovery or not.

I think when this happens you need to give space, and give people some dignity.

A lot of people did move away and my friends quickly moved their young children but as the delay indicated, they spent a long time working on him and we were fearing for the worst.

Always sad and distressing when this happens.

The most important thing is he’s making a full recovery, and we must thank the stewards and medical staff. It was handled really well in the SSU apparently.

In a weird way he was fortunate to be in a football ground at the time with a club crowd doctor present, paramedics, defibrillator and James Baldock on hand if needed.
Made me think when I was doing my cross country run in the middle of nowhere this morning….
