Home Match Day Thread 16/07/22 PSF: OUFC v Coventry

Not many
I see us finishing bottom 8 rather than top 8

That’s as it stands, the news about Baldock is not good
Gorrin hasn’t played , Long is injured
Moore has gone off injured

Our defence is much worse than last season

I feel a general gloom around the club at the moment
Very strange, can assure you the feeling in the club is not the same 😂

Which four teams will be worse than us next season?
That is a really intersting question.
Few positives from that:

-McGuane looked a different animal in that holding role no one could get the ball of him & he used it very well
-Sinclair was better than I expected (although expectations were low) Put himself about, tried hard & should have scored
-CamBran industrious as ever & Ciaran Brown is a bit of a nutter uses all parts of his body to defend
-Goodrham looks a very very good talent
-James Golding while he may not be ready to start every game feel more than confident to rely on him if needed.

Negatives:

-Moore injury
-Defending set pieces + Forde is no starting right back
-Bodin & Henry anonymous and gave the ball away when they did have it
-Appreciate it was hot but movement was stagnant at times
-Goalkeeper distribution horrific as always

I also don't see why Karl rates Josh Johnson so highly, everytime i've seen him play he doesn't look to be a footballer, needs more composure hopefully that comes with experience
Golding played out the first half well. He became a little overun innthe second half, but showed how he would benefit from a season on loan. Nick said he thought he was going to a national league side.
Likewise Tyler Goodram was always looking to do something with the ball. Again a loan would iron out things such as running straight at a players which he was tending to do.

Josh Johnson looked like a random bloke from your sunday 5-a-side team away at QPR last season

I wonder if this is a universally-held viewpoint at the moment, because I don't really feel energised or excited by the club at the moment. I do worry that the good feeling and big crowds we had built up over last season might be quickly lost.
I wonder what the owners are thinking if they’re reading this. I can just imagine them in May saying to Karl “Right Karl, we’ll leave you to it over the summer and see you again in August. You know what you’ve got to do, just don’t f**k it up..” 😁

Out of interest which thread is more doom and gloom? This one or the transfer one?

I am personally regretting getting a season ticket considering the season has already been written off.

No wonder Robinson took a long holiday, he obviously knew there was no point in even trying this year…

Presumably you’re joking. I’m sure I’ll enjoy it and I look forward to seeing the new players

You won't regret it the three times we are able to put out our strongest 11 and we rip a new a**e in the opposition. 😊

It was very much tongue in cheek. I personally can’t wait for the new season to start and watching us at as many games as possible this year.

What is the point of already writing the season off before a ball has been kicked, all you are doing is making it less enjoyable for yourself surely?

Looks like all our main defenders were zonal marking along the 6 yard box and their guy just attacked the space... never been a huge fan of having all your players who are strong in the air just marking space. It seems to be the way everyone does it nowadays and what do I know anyway never going any higher than Sunday league..?! 😁

Whilst things aren't great on the signing front, I don't think they're that bad. An XI of Stevens, Long, Moore, Brown, Seddon, Brannagan, Gorrin, McGuane, Bodin, Taylor, Browne is more than good enough to see us in the top half this season. The only problem is that that isn't our aim this season, promotion is.
But the same old problems are there & have been for 2 years now & as a whole THIS TEAM CANNOT DEFEND (it will be the same re-occurring Robinson who will not a address these issues in this team & which will ultimately fail as a result that’s by keeping hold of the same 2 Goalkeepers, not adding real fullback competition for Long & Seddon instead look for stop gaps of Forde & Brown without fixing the real issue here, look for another playmaker in defensive midfielder instead of signing a decent no nonsense midfielder with a physical element who can read danger & get round the pitch)

When we get hammered at Derby it's going to be a real wake up call for some on here. Unless we get loads of quality through the door I don't want to go to see us humiliated.
