Home Match Day Thread 26/12/2020 L1 OUFC v AFC Wimbledon

Not sure you can say we defended well when they had a load of chances. Teams attacking always seem to have played free around the edge of the box. Defended wholeheartedly maybe but the midfield goes too deep for my liking.

Still, 3 points and Stevens will be buzzing all night in his calico shirt, dress shorts and smart loafers. I'd like him to play in a yachting cap with a smart navy logo.

Calico?! Linen surely:)

I said this a lot last year, but it's also true this season as well - if you're playing OUFC and you sit back and let us play it out calmly from the back, we're going to pick you to pieces. But work hard and keep a high press on our backline going, and we can be thrown off our game.

Lucky Hodges hadn't bothered to watch the videos....

I think that is exactly right. Quite why Wimbledon started the game set up as they were is baffling.

Of course, given that it's not exactly a secret that we don't like playing pressing teams and haven't done so for at least a season and a half, the real mystery is why we haven't (or can't) found some sort of way to counteract it.

Well, I guess part of defending is keeping the ball out of the back of the net.

Plenty of bodies in the way, some great saves and a clearance off the line.

I am sure we would all have preferred to see the team of the first 20 minutes for the duration, but we saw it through and as you say, 3 points and a keeper growing in confidence.

Quite right too, allow the lad to express himself through sartorial skill.

Actually, Mrs Lounger thought less is better but, I suspect she has slightly different ambitions.

I thought McGuane had a very good game, and Wimbledon changed the formation to man mark him, he is turning into a very good loan signing. He is literally learning every game.
Stevens performance was special and inspired. The double save was memorable.
Fair play to Wimbledon they are like a rash that wont go away.

Absolutely bloody awful. Against AFC Wimbledon. We are totally Rubbish. But hey, we won, and thats all that matters.

Now looking forward to seeing Robbos transfers.
Do you remember when we were playing well and getting beat? "No points for good performances", "we need to learn to win ugly" was what you were saying then. Today we did enough in the first half hour to win. 3 valuable points, the first back to back wins of the season, and a real display from Stevens to cement his status as no.1 keeper.

I'll take that!

As i said, 3 points is all that matters :)

Obviously started on fire , tactical change and some amazing hard ,hard work from Don's changed the game although still chances for a 3rd but didn't quite sit up .
Stevens fab , I loved the first part of the double save ...so so quick of his line .
Midfield I felt lost it when McGuane man marked ...Kelly, Henry didn't really get into it.
Stevens day !
