Chris Cadden

Whilst we all would've liked him to stay, can any of us say we're really that surprised? Cads had a chance to sign for us in the summer and chose Columbus Crew, so it was us getting him for half a season or not at all. It's a blow but no player is bigger than the club, and a side at League One level can 100% get a replacement that's as good as him, especially if we're still in the cups and at the right end of the league table.
My thoughts exactly. I think they need to just move on and get somebody else. Don’t hang about.

CC will be coming here, I think it's all a smokescreen. The agreement with Columbus was to sign him, loan him to us then we sign him in Jan to go around the rules
Don't want to make it obvious to everyone else.
What would be the point of that? Why not just sign him in the first place? Unless its for a lower price agreed with motherwell.

What rules?

I think there's a lot of wishful thinking going on on this thread.

Columbus have annual revenue of around $25m - that puts them on a par with a medium-sized Championship club, someone like a Birmingham City or Nottingham Forest. They're not a club that's going to be doing a complex transfer dance with a club like ours for the sake of a few hundred thousand bucks.

What's much more likely is that they identified a player they liked, convinced him to sign, loaned him out to us so he stayed fit and now - shock, horror - actually want him to play for them next season. So unless a) We really blow them out of the water with an offer.....likely we're talking seven figures here (which would be a financially risky thing for us to be doing) or b) Cadden himself gets particularly belligerent and forces a deal - he's gone.

Hopefully KR & co. are turning their attention to his January replacement.

He was never going to stay with us. The Columbus chairman said what the situation was on their website at the very start of the loan. I know money talks but Columbus aren't short of a few bob. I've enjoyed watching him, and hopefully he can contribute a bit more for the next few busy weeks.

The same (alleged) non payment of players in July?

Who knows. But you know full well that the players wages were late being paid prior to them going on tour. Maybe ask your contact on the playing staff if you don’t believe me.

I think he's gone in January, KR said Tiger didn't want to get into a haggle so we put in a good bid. That's makes sense to me, we know where we are and can get on with getting cover for Sam Long instead of a protracted negotiation and everyone's who's any good is no longer available.

But the bit about "they might change their mind". An odd thing to say.

The whole Cadden deal which took him to the States and back to us on loan is a bit odd. The big losers here are Motherwell, something doesn’t feel right.

Having said that he’s a quality player at our level and I’d be delighted if we signed him.

However the player and the club need to know where they stand, so putting in our ‘final’ offer straight away makes sense to me. To keep haggling and going back with increased offers just prolongs the whole situation and creates uncertainty. Plus the clubs aim is to be run in a sustainable manner.

Either give Sam Long a run in the team or target and bring in another right back in January.
