That's a good point about rest - even if we don't win, the longer we can keep the Aussie's in the field the better - there are short turn around times between tests.New ball is crucial. We need Root and Malan to be there for that new ball and to see it off.
We are still odds on to lose the match but the spirit shown is promising. What’s more, getting the aussie quicks into second and third bowling spells really helps our bowlers to actually have a rest!
Notable that the aussie pundits/commentators are struggling to use the pc cricket term of batter instead of batsman ....just about managing to comply albeit tripping over the word often ....bless em
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but Jack Leach will have to bowl pretty well in the second innings to turn his selection into a good choice! What a difference a day makes!
Yesterday Malan shouldn't have been picked, we should have picked 4 seamers (plus Stokes).
BBC suggesting that there us some uneven bounce and spin and if England were a decent way ahead in the 4th innings, then a spinner could be useful .
Even yesterday before the toss, Cummins was saying 50/50 as to whether he would have bayted first and Steve Finn said the same (needed to bat through the first hour reasonably unscathed and it would be easier).

They also have Jhye Richardson in reserve and although untested at this level, he looks a good player. Beyond that, who knows?100% agree.
We've rested two of our better bowlers for this Test, but the Aussies haven't - this is 100% their best attack. And whilst they're not elder statesmen like Anderson & Broad, they're not exactly spring chickens either. Cummins is the youngest of the four frontliners at 28.
So if we can keep them on the field for most of Day 4, then even if we don't ultimately stave off defeat, it improves our chances for Adelaide. Morning session is utterly crucial for the series as a whole.
Respect to Malan. I was one of those that would have put him out to pasture for good two years ago. But if he can put together a couple more innings like this one, I'll have to eat some crow.
Do you work a night shift? If not, that’s some devotion to keep up to date throughout the night, particularly after the previous day’s performance.160/2
Both Malan and Root in the 50’s
Great so far, just don’t give away there wickets cheaply. If they get a good ball done.
Yes, I had a nervous chuckle to myself in the car. It would’ve been devastating had he nicked it!But what about that final delivery of the day, nearly choked on my Cornflakes
