The figures banded about on here are sometimes twice the record for defenders in this division.

Given he has 10 months left, and can negotiate a pre-contract in 4, £2million plus add-ons would be very good business.

Anything more than that is a truly fantastic deal. Here’s hoping.

Will be interesting to see how Atkinson gets on, he looked good against Palace. Maybe he is now considered first choice alongside Moore. Would need a replacement as three would leave us too short. Expect Nico Jones to go out on loan.

Given Moore has only played half a season’s worth of games in L1, Atkinson hasn’t played any and Mousinho is 34 and likely retiring next summer, not bringing in a replacement centre back would be risky. Bets can pay off, but it is a gamble.

We were somewhat lucky defensively considering we only had two senior full backs at the club for the second half of last season and neither of them got injured, so fate has probably decided that we won't be as lucky this year.

As somebody who used to work for the media department at the club, they know a lot more than you think and are actively told a lot more than you think.

After watching the two pre season games and hearing good things coming from the oufc camp atkinson looks a really good addition and will slot into the starting lineup alongside Moore, so in fact we already have Dickies replacement. I think we should use the funds and prepare for Mous having his last hurrah (albeit the preseason games he has looked shaky and off the pace, and didn't feature in the playoff campaign). Therefore, I think we need to bring someone in to replace Mous / the back up CB slot and whether that be another developmental player or an older / experienced pro or premier league loan.

They hear things directly from Oxford United. One of the Radio Oxford team technically works for the club as the stadium announcer. I know how close they get.

It’s merely interesting that they’ve gone out of their way to mention that the figures punted around on here might be a little hopeful rather than realistic. So let’s wait and see, but it’s telling that their message is one of “settle down for now”.
