Current Player #16 Tyler Burey

That's what I don't understand. If all that's being suggested about his disrupted behaviour is correct, why haven't we got rid of him?

I'd expect there to be am escalation process before sending someone back.

Not appearing in the squad would be an earlier step in that process.

** disclaimer **
I have no idea what's going on here either!

Looks like there's a disconnect between Des and the recruitment team. It's clear Burey was on our radar pre Des and this signing looks like it wasn't one DB wanted. You wonder whether he wanted Matete too. You also wonder how the hell Goodwin cannot get a start in this team. Burey has what no other player appears to possess in our team - rapid pace over a short distance and an ability to whip the balls in early and quickly - he doesn't look like a jinking sort of winger who has any desire to reach the by line and pull it back, it's all about the first 5-10 yards, putting it in to a dangerous area and leaving for the attackers to do the rest. Burey and Goodwin amongst a front three, not the worst shout.

Would you drop Murphy or Dale to get Burey in? I can see why he should be on the bench but can't see how anyone would have him start?

But he's not on the bench, is he?

I know that, I have said I would have him on there, but at the same time he is not getting a start as a winger over Dale or Murphy is he? We don't score on Saturday without those two, they are two of our best players.

No, being a disruptive influence or causing disharmony amongst the rest of the squad would also be justifiable reasons to leave him out. Not saying that is what is happening, but if it was something like that couldn't we simply terminate his loan agreement?
Not playing him doesn't solve that problem (if it even is one). As you say, if the issue is that his attitude is so bad it's effecting the rest of the team then just not playing him is no solution - send him back.

Squad's should be selected based on credentials as a player in a competitive game, not if you're a nice bloke or not. There's plenty of knobs in football that get selected every week. Burey offers much needed pace and plays in a much needed position.

Maybe not but let's not go absolutely overboard on Murphy and Dale. They are doing well, I didn't see the Pompey game where they were apparently very good but we still lost and only scored a penalty. Saturday, I thought Murphy was ineffective until his goal, which he took really well. Second half he was alright. Dale was the brighter of the two on Saturday, he's tenacious and as his goal proved he can get past a man on the outside, even though I don't think he's the quickest.

Can we rely on Murphy and Dale to carry this decent vein of form on though ? Burey is a different sort of wide player to both of these and I find it unfathomable as to why he can't make the 18.

We have no idea what did or didn't happen between Burey, Buckingham and the rest of the squad, If there are disciplinary issues I hope that Burey is offered a way back into the squad -if he keeps to his commitments.

Nonetheless Murphy has now scored 3 in six and can last 90 minutes. Dale was excellent against both Portsmouth and Cheltenham. I think Goodrham is back for Bolton. I'm not sure I'd pick Burey ahead of those three

I don't disagree that he should be on the bench, especially with Goodrham out, would have him on the bench with Goodrham as well when he is back, but just don't think he has shown enough to be a starter over two of our more effective players. The bench lacks pace though and with 5 from 7 subs its annoying and strange to have James Henry and Billy Bodin as the wide options, unless something beyond the usual has gone on we are weakening ourselves.

Simplistic nonsense.
No, you're right, the squad should be selected based on how the manager personally feels towards an individual. Whether it's the squad that gives you the best chance to win the game or not is totally irrelevant, because results don't matter in football, all that matters is that everyone who plays for us is a lovely guy 🥰

Yeah, because it's obviously either/or.

Do you actually re-read what you’re about to post? These are the ramblings of a mad man.

So Burey wasn't identified pre Des ? Throw summer signing, familiar face and ex player, Jordan Thorniley in, then chuck in deadline day signing Matete - who can't seemingly fill in a gaping hole alongside Brannagan - then add in £400,000 Goodwin, on top of that add in a load of absolute shite performances. Just for good measure, we'll mention Des's mate Sam Long who came back in and promptly scored a costly own goal.

No, silly me for thinking there might be some sort of disconnect between Buckingham and recruitment.

So erm, these 11 players he does start with, they weren't recruited by recruitment too then?

The only justifiable reason to leave him out is if he's injured or just unavailable to play for some other reason (personal reasons etc). He clearly has something to contribute and plays in a position we need. Not selecting him if he's available for selection is most definitely lunacy, and actually potentially harming our play-off chances.
Thete are plenty of reasons why you wouldn't include him.
Alex Ferguson and all good managers would totally disagree with you .
The thing is, we don't know. How can you make such comments when you don't know what is going on?

Eh ? A lot have ben there years. I'm saying that a few players where the current recruitment staff have clearly had a big input - and signed since DB has been here - can't get a start under him. Bennett, Matete, Burey and Goodwin. Two of those - Goodwin and Matete - should walk in to this team. DB told us Harris was knackered and in need of a bit of rotation, that hasn't happened for whatever reason. McGuane has been out of form, McEacheran too, yet Matete doesn't look like he's trusted. As for Burey, well he's just disappeared. There's half of the winter recruitment being under used.

There's a big interview with Marvin Johnson in the Football League paper this week about his contract at Sheffield Wednesday. Signed a new contract, then a new manager froze him out and left him out of the FL "named squad". Then they changed manager, brought him back in, and they've now gone on a run of 4 wins in 5, and are in the group of 7 teams within 3 points of each other scrapping to avoid relegation.

And managers too. I understand Des is a lovely guy.

Well thanks for trying, but no.

It looks to me like you're trying to bend events to fit your theory.

Excepting the curious case of Burey, the others haven't yet shown themselves to be more obvious starting material yet.

Burey is obviously left out of the squad for a reason by Des.Matete is struggling after a long injury and looked way off the pace. Have a bit of faith in Des please.
