Away Match Day Thread 16/11/2021 FA Cup 1st R. Replay: Bristol Rovers v OUFC

Had to f*****g leg it through Bristol to catch the last train because the bus terminated early. Having left at HT ET that was a f*****g horrendous last hour for me. What the f**k happened.

Difficult to think of too many positives from tonight. Having not seen that last 15 minutes I can’t comment on what happened but even until then, it was pretty uninspiring. Disappointing from Bodin, MacGuane and especially Agyei, who seems to have significantly regressed this year. The extra half hour in the legs won’t hve done any of the players who played 120 mins any favours and the manner of a capitulation like that is very concerning, regardless of the circumstances. Didn’t see it, but an Easty clanger is also very concerning. Don’t think anyone here needs reminding how his last major mistake affected his confidence for months.

The positives for me to the extent there were any were Matty Taylor’s performance, who was the one player on the pitch who looked a real class above, and the general solidness of the 3ATB (although I appreciate that perception was probably completely thrown out the window by the final 15 mins). With the caveat of that second half of ET, I thought we looked pretty untroubled pretty much all game. Perhaps bodes well as a system we could switch to in the league if needs be. But then again, Rovers looked very, very limited, so it’s difficult to judge. That #4 is one of the worst professional footballers I’ve seen for a good long while.

Horrible night but it’s moments like this that make the last minute winners at Hillsborough all the sweeter. All part and parcel of following OUFC. Onwards and upwards.

I was looking forward to playing Sunderland in the league anyway!!

So do we need to make room for new signings in January?...the two who need to leave most are Cooper and Agyei.
Winnall and maybe Hanson would, IMO , be way ahead of Agyei & Cooper to free up spaces

So am I Scotchers. But fobbing off losing a lot cash with a (potentially) lucrative big name Round 3 tie is very sad. I suppose the mega millions that we all expect to be credited to the OUFC current account next week will of course make all things rosy again - will it not?

I agree in terms of quality of player, but in terms of who we can realistically move on, Agyei and Cooper will likely be much easier. A few League 2 sides would take Agyei on a free for sure, Cooper could easily go back to NI on loan or a free, maybe conference or L2 if he still wants to give a pro career a shot.

Something about KR's comments made me wonder if there might be some surprising names on his hit list too. Bodin and Williams have failed to inspire more than occasional flashes this season, and again would be potentially easy to move on.

For me an ideal scenario is Cooper/Agyei out on L2 loans, see if they can get anything going for half a season and if not release at contract end. Mous unregistered, and if by some miracle we can get them out Hanson and Winnall out too. Then bring cover at CB, LB, CDM and ST. Use the fifth spot if we have it for a marquee signing like Browne/Barker have been for us before (not saying actually them, just someone who can have the same impact).

I reckon all four will go.🤷🏽‍♂️

We’ll need a replacement for Gorrin if he’s out for the season too. Whilst he’ll still be a wage, we can at least deregister him.

It all predicates on whether we can bring in resources that are better than the ones we want to replace. With Winnall, that’s not hard. Some ability at football and two working legs is better than the bed blocking permanent fixture in our medical room.

Agyei was apparently wanted in the summer so we may find a suitor. He’s in the last 6 months of his contract so it makes sense for him to sever ties.

Hanson will be hard to shift. Too expensive and injury prone. We’re going to be stuck with him until the bitter end.

Cooper will go back to Northern Ireland. Why it hasn’t worked out I don’t know, but ‘the model’ will give us duds from time to time. He’s a fairly inexpensive one to make.

Can we bring in better players? We’re up to our eyeballs in loanees - Kane, Holland, Thorniley and Whyte - so anyone we bring in will have to be ready to go as a possible permanent deal.

Don't forget Gorrin will more then likely miss the rest of the season. Can deregister him aswell.

In the car 30 miles outside Brizzle and even though there are plenty of you geezers and geezerettes who are inadvertently happy we can now concentrate on the league just remember then to put your TV in the dustbin on December the 6th when the draw for the 3rd round is on. Please no if only's.

To think in around 80 hours or so its Wigan away and I'm not even half way home!

Safe journey to everyone else heading back.

COYY'S

I would be surprised if we see much more of Agyei - I was at the game tonight and Karl just looked totally exasperated with him. I’m not suprised he offered so little to the team and is just not reliable.

Oh come on- if we can't moan after an absolute capitulation to a lower league team with most of our first team playing, when can we?
Absolutely, it’s the time to moan.

I’m not a fan of tinkering or silly new formations, but the team was good enough to be 3-1 up in extra time. By then the managers job is done , he can’t affect what happens in the last few minutes of extra time.

I’m annoyed that we didn’t take the first leg seriously, esp as we now know there was a favourable draw in the next round.

Ridiculous comments, obviously a shocker but not really grounds for Karl to be sacked and the players hung, drawn and quartered is it?
Full strength Wycombe lost at home to Hartlepool, its not just us that had a mare.
Not only did Wycombe lose tonight to a lower league club, only 1,582 bothered to turn up and 112 of them were fromTeeside....
NOW THAT IS PATHETIC........!

itll likely be 2 (more) wingers
Nicky Cadden would be perfect - covers LB and also itches KR's winger obsession. If they're more threatening then Bodin and Williams I'll take it tbh!
