Re Harrison. Gives us power and a presence up top. My Gran deceased for 5 years has more goal threat mind, its an odd one. Still, look at Jonson Clarke Harris record til a couple of seasons ago. Sometimes things just click.

As for the racists, everyone knows we (like all clubs) have a weekly meeting of the brain donors society. Hopefully they will support him in yellow.

Appalled to read this...
The very next season when we went to the Mem (1-0 win, Mowatt) some other supporters spent the first half referring to the Rovers left back, Bola, as Ebola. I questioned whether I was reading too much into it in terms of racial connotations, maybe it’s just them being too stupid to come up with anything better, until someone told him to eff off back to Africa. Again, reported and no action taken. Stewards nearby who could hear it all. On both occasions, more people laughed along than told them to pipe down. Not sure I buy the narrative that racism isn’t a problem in football, or that social media trolling doesn’t count as racism, and that’s why booing the knee is acceptable. I’ve heard a number of our own fans being racist on multiple occasions in recent seasons. I’m sure our club isn’t unique. A long way to go, which feels like a lot longer still given the current climate.

Apologies - don’t mean to derail the transfer thread. Merely thought it was genuinely relevant seeing as it looks like we might be days away from signing a player who has specifically been the subject of racist abuse from our own fans. I hope that those people feel ashamed and remember how stupid they were. Especially if we do happen to sign him and they end up applauding him.

Agree with this. Barker is better all round than Shodipo. Barker's touch and class is Championship level.
Mm not convinced. I would say Shopido has become much better at the defending side of playing out wide than Barker is. This shows how much he is willing to learn as when he first came, tracking back was a weakness. His goal contribution was really important too. Barker had great moments but lacked energy, consistency and was a bit lazy. Can't see him making it in the Championship. L1/SPL is his level. Would rather have Shopido than Barker.

Yes why taking the knee is worthwhile as racism remains a problem.

Back to topic . Jayden Stockley turns down Pompey and signs for Charlton ...Will this have bearing on Ellis Harrison signing for us ??

When he's in the game, Barker can do magical things. However, he doesn't do enough to make things happen. If we're struggling to get him the ball he's not the type to work hard to change that. Shodipo, who I was skeptical about for the same reasons at the start of the season, managed to add that side to his game, albeit the goals did dry up a bit more.

If I wanted a bit more reliability I'd go for Shodipo, and if I wanted that one moment of magic to unlock the opposition's defence I'd probably call on Barker, but I don't think there's too much between them being honest.

That's interesting as strangely enough I was only thinking earlier today about incidents of racism I've directly seen/heard at a football match and I could only remember one - when one of our own fans called Liam Davis a monkey. This incident was reported to a steward and the offender was removed from the stadium. I've been a ST holder every season since we moved to the Kassam and have probably averaged about 10 away games a season in that time, so not a bad sample size.

It really is a shame to think there's a player potentially about to join the club that will have that memory of our fan base. Based on my own experiences of attending games I thought we were better than most. Apparently not.

Harrison was racially abused by some of our fans away at Rovers in 2016. The same game where Taylor came off the bench to score the winner and did the handshake celebration. “Oi Harrison, lend us a monkey, mate!” was the line used repeatedly to goad him. At one point somebody followed it up with a monkey ‘shriek’. Harrison stopped and glared at the people responsible more than once and they were reported to stewards, but nothing was done about it. Those same people will probably be cheering him if he signs.
Well those arseholes ain’t real OUFC fans, and hopefully will have crawled back under their rocks, never to be seen again

I hope so, because I believe we can do better!

You mean like Winnall ? Quoted as the best you can get at this level by Karl. Atleast Harrison has proved in the last couple of seasons he can play a part especially when he was in a pretty average Pompey side who were always flirting with the play offs.

Not sure that anyone a bit doubtful about Harrison automatically thinks Winnall turned out to be a brilliant signing - no matter what KR said!

Curtis strikes me as one of those players that you think is a bellend but you'd love him if he was playing for you. Just like Maguire and just like Hylton. I don't think it's an attitude thing
Not so sure. Hylton and Maguire while cocky and liked winding the opposition up, didn't come across as cheating pathetic arseholes... like Curtis does.
