General Fixtures

The U's start against a familiar face when they take on Michael Appleton's Imps at Sincil Bank on Saturday 12th August and then have their first home league game at the Kassam Stadium the following Saturday against Sunderland.

12th August? Oh s**t I missed it then.

Has away fans not being allowed all season been officially confirmed, or is it another classic forum example of people stating their beliefs as fact? Given how the current government seem to be playing things by ear and opening up things as and when, I don't see why away fans might not be allowed in May 2021, when we might have a vaccine etc? (Unless it's been officially announced already in which case I apologise)

Pure speculation. As is pretty much everything at the moment.
Under current rules/guidance Home ST holders only could be accommodated in a "Covid-Secure" way.
Away fans is different gravy.............. travel...... track & trace etc.

The other curved ball is Exiled ST holders.............. like me. I would expect a start of ST holders with OX postcodes only...... and then expand from there.

Seeing the fixtures now in black and white, reminds me how tough this league is going to be this season, especially the first couple of months.

Personally think that away fans will be a club by club basis based on stadium set-up and the ability to distance their own ST holders effectively.

I would expect that we'll seek to use all of the north stand if capacity is initially limited to 30-40%.

Clubs that have home and away fans in the same stand e.g. Lincoln, probably won't bother with away fans.
Somewhere like Doncaster where the ground is a continuous tier all the away round might be difficult logistically depending on their ST sales.
Whereas, Sunderland (dependent on ST sales) might allow away fans as they're normally housed up in the gods.

A lot of it will come down to how much of the regulations/restrictions football clubs are expected to enforce, track & trace, social distancing etc.

I might quickly change the address my season ticket gets sent to family in Oxfordshire then.

While it’s all speculation their has been a lot of chat with similar numbers and rules, probably been leaked to the clubs to allow them to prepare and leaked to the press.

Our EFL Trophy fixture dates are confirmed now too, not that anyone cares.

Tuesday 8th September - Chelsea U-21 H
Tuesday 6th October - Bristol Rovers H
Tuesday 10th November - Walsall A

Perhaps I'm overly optimistic, but I had the opposite. Assuming we are a similar quality to end of last season, every fixture I saw I thought "we can win this".

...that will then cost the club £150k in lost revenue.

How? Home st holders only likely so money already in the bank+ no floodlights needed..how much would be needed to cover Wiltshire police if they kept it as an evening Kick Off

With little or no fans i'm sure there will be flexibility with kick off times anyway and given the History and police intervention i'll not be surprised to see it switched to midday.

Particularly pointless competition this season. We’ve got enough on our plates just trying to get the league games and the ‘proper’ cup fixtures done in a reduced timeframe.

I suspect it isn't for clubs if the prize money is the same considering the loss of income elsewhere and FA Cup prize money being halved.

so are Wigan going to get the same treatment as Bolton?
start games with their kiddies then if takeover happens they’ll strengthen just in time for us to play them

A lot of clubs lose money playing the games in front of sub-1000 crowds as it is. The prize money is minimal.

Probably just because unlike Macclesfield Wigan are ex prem and probably considered to big to chick out the league like they did to Macclesfield

Are clubs obliged to enter?, i am genuinely interested
Believe so. Think we’re also still barred from playing too many young players or too many who didn’t play the last league game / don’t play the next league game, even though the PL and Championship clubs send their kids to play us. You’d think this season given the hectic schedule for L1 and L2 sides that they would at least adjust that, so we can heavily rotate and blood young pros without worrying about breaking the rules and getting fined. How do fines and restrictions help anybody right now?

A few seasons back Luton kept playing their kids and taking the fine, despite the fact that they were winning games. Whole competition is a farce.

Have they changed the prize pot then? As prize money can easily be getting towards £70k or so for a club without going far in the competition and a fair few clubs have pointed to it as being good money for them.

Surprised no one has mentioned this run of fixtures yet, from Sat Feb 20 - Sat Mar 13, we have Saturday-Tuesday fixtures every week of:

Ipswich (A)
Pompey (H)
MK (H)
Posh (A)
Charlton (H)
Swindon (A)
Hull (A)

With the exception of MK they should all be very tough fixtures. Given the timing too it could totally derail a promotion push if we don’t come through it without sustaining too much damage.

In these unprecedented times you’d like to think that someone with some strategic oversight at the FA would say, ‘you know what, the clubs have got enough to get through without another meaningless competition.’ Especially as the 2020 final hasn’t even been played or scheduled yet.
i realise what I’m asking for is unlikely though.

They may have no choice contractually with sponsorship etc.
