How to complete the season

If The Telegraph article from last night is deemed to be a decent perspective on what is going to happen, then:
- Season will end now
- PPG used for final table, apparently it's the simplest system to use.
- Leading to playoffs of Wycombe v Fleetwood and Oxford v Portsmouth but still an outside change of an extended play-off competition.

Who cares which system is simpler, surely the most statistically acclaimed one should be used?!
It won't be the EFL staff doing the number churning anyway, they'll have appointed a numbers boffin.

Extended play-off competition seems nuts to me.

Is that even on the table ? I guess the main issue for you is weighted or standard PPG. incase play offs cant happen.
Whatever the closest thing on the table to that is, that’s what we will likely back.

A week ago the EFL were getting ready to finally close it all off. Hell of a u-turn took place.

What’s the rush? I don’t understand this push or even the need to end the season in some way. Okay ‘normally’ we’d be finished by May. Players go on holidays we get bored speculating on who we’re going to sign. The only problem is the players contracts which could be agreed by the powers that be to be extended. Most are on furlough anyway. It really doesn’t matter when we start back, begin the next season or end it. But things ain’t normal right now! If we must go back let’s just do the same as Germany.

What way are Oxford likely to vote ?

Iv seen some many stories with different things.

I cant see you voting to extend the play offs to more teams as this would hurt your chances of promotion.

So I'm guessing play on or PPG with play offs so breaking away from the "salty" six as your known as.

Why would they be telling us mere supporters?

Personally I favour weighted PPG and promote the top 3. Then think about next season, for the clubs that still exist.

Birming-ventry City has a ring to it.

Why does everyone make such comments about the bear pit, more commonly known as the South Stand lol. Trust me its not for the faint hearted. ;)
It takes years of experience watching the yellows to even qualify to be able to enter the sacred ground of the south stand, don’t forget we came out of the London road , we know what glory is , because we have seen some utter rubbish in our times as well, Nuneaton, Kettering ,!!!!!!!!

I agree with him.
As much as it goes against everything I stand for, it's also not hard to disagree with him on this. I'm not sure that the playoffs will happen in any meaningful way, and it will be a total lottery, but at least it can be settled on the pitch.

Weighted PPG is the fairest solution, but I'm not sure that alone should be used to determine promotion (even when it would currently favour us). We may well have to win it on the pitch and if that's the case we need to believe that throughout the season we have shown that we are more than good enough to beat whoever we face. With everyone fit (or as best as they can be) and the team spirit and motivation seen prior to the lockdown, we shouldn't fear anyone. This could still be a fantastic end to the most bizarre season ever!

Oxford fans prefer the system that suits their club best - Shock

Most fans are looking at the best possible way out of unprecedented and uncertain times. I've said clearly that I wouldn't want promotion through ppg in any capacity and would rather win it on the pitch, which I'm convinced we would have done had the season continued.

Can you say that too?

No matter which way you slice it in terms of PPG, the top two in L1 are Coventry and Rotherham and the top three in L2 are Crewe, Swindon and Plymouth. So just sack off the playoffs and promote only those sides.

In L1 only two would go down as we need to fill the spot left by Bury, so down go Bolton and Southend. Who could complain that this would be unfair? They’re both miles adrift. Only Luton and Barnsley would come down from the Championship but again, they’ve been down there all season and are somewhat adrift, so very little room for complaint. That’s just how it goes - you were crap for 37 games. Job done.

Leeds and WBA can go up from the Championship as they’ve been the pace setters all season and there’s a gap there anyway, so off you go lads. The Premier League can do what they want and decide how they do it, but two teams need to come down to replace Leeds and WBA. Leave it to them, give them a deadline and if they can’t sort it, the bottom two automatically drop and that’s that. Tough - get it done.

Then all that’s needed is to decide the bottom of L2. Even if Stevenage win their game in hand their goal difference would still leave them bottom, so I would boot them down and let Barrow up from the Conference.

Done. This is what people get paid for. Run your god damn administrations and make some decisions, you spineless idiots.

EDIT: As has been pointed out, let Barrow up into L2 but Stevenage don’t go down to balance the books. Happy days.

Excepting Stevenage, who shouldn't be relegated* thus restoring the 92, I agree it seems the fairest outcome.

Problem is there's no method or formula.

*obviously in any reasonable universe they should be relegated, on grounds of taste and decency if nothing else

I think the fairest way out of this is to promote the top two and sort the table on straight PPG and then have the play offs as normal.

Make them play off against Barrow so that there is still an opportunity for a non-league team to come up.

Not football, though. Tug-of-war, egg and spoon, and a specially-arranged cucumber sandwich discus will allow social distancing.

Barrow would come up anyway to restore the 92.

Stevenage could Egg and Spoon against Harrogate.*

*currently 2nd place and quite a nice town to boot

This is all too complicated now.

I’ve changed my mind. Stop being snowflakes and finish the season.
