What a Captain Fantastic Mousinho is!

Comes on with 5 seconds left, doesn’t touch the ball, then steps up and absolutely smashes the ball past the helpless Sunderland keeper.

Love it!
Great penalty but they were all good. Fosu's was top corner as well.

Just in, WOW what a game. A game played at very high tempo by two teams wanting to play football.
Nervous yes I was. I felt Moore won every header in our box, I thought nice again Dickie was immense. Fosu played with aplomb although drifted out in the last 15. The full backs were sensational Josh Ruffles was superb possibly my MOM.
Will Grigg? What a waste of money and Easty old son why a save.
Don’t care who we get in the quarter final let’s just enjoy it.

my personal favourite (thread) is the “Congratulations Stewart Donald” thread which I’ve provided a link below for your entertainment:

Bless them!

Their match day threads go to 82 pages.

Why I've never seen the likes of that before.

Bit lucky tonight. Missed Cameron big time subs should have come on a lot sooner. Think we also missed Mous for his leadership. Dickie and Moore did brilliantly. Team looked unusually tired. Never mind we won!!!!!!

Disagree about the quarter finals. I want Colchester. Then Everton, Villa or Wolves in the semis and it wouldn’t be the most ridiculous suggestion to say a Wembley final could be on.

What a season though. Never known anything like it for momentum on all fronts. The FLT final at Wembley is a very real possibility. Let’s face it, there aren’t many left in that better than us.

Fosu was gone after 65-70 minutes, he could hardly put one foot in front of the other. Ran himself into the ground. It was a great battling win and we are showing all sorts of ways of winning football matches. Really pleasing to see us win this type of tie because in recent seasons gone by we’d have fluffed our lines in this sort of encounter.

First game of the season having flown in this morning. Well worth the early morning start. Coasting for much of it until we sat too deep in the second half. Thought Gorrin was outstanding and felt needed Mous on earlier to shore up midfield. Thought Sunderland were poor side generally - surprised by how poor! Fair play to the Sunderland fans that turned up (decent bunch too it seemed) - true fans as sticking with them through the hard times. Long way to come and came in good numbers. Fair play to all of them.

Quarter finals it is then! And great atmosphere too tonight from all around the ground.

We could have lost that. Very good pens though and good save by Easty.
Cam was badly missed, no bite in midfield.
Baptiste and Henry need to up their games at Pompey. We did look tired for the first time this season. Moore and Dickie looked good but we were vulnerable down the wings. Sunderland under Parkinson will be up there. They were organised fit and strong.
Still, we won so here's hopeing for a good draw next round. Fitness coaches need to do a good job this week to get the players ready for Saturday.

Wow!

What an amazing night, great atmosphere, and great result!

The way the whole stadium erupted when Easty saved the deciding pen was an incredible moment!

Not the best performance though, Baptiste had a shocker, great goal from Hall, who looks like he’s really starting to make some good progress now.

Dickie and Moore were excellent, winning everything in the air, and the full backs worked their socks off, but we really did miss Brannagan and Cadden, and it was very obvious they were missing.

Sunderland were a tough nut to crack, but we really dug deep, stuck together, on the pitch and in the stands, and got the job done!

Well done to Robbo and the lads!

On to Pompey!

A pretty average game to be honest topped off by the most hostile atmosphere ever experienced at the breeze block. There was no way we were going to lose the shootout. Thought our defence kept us in it; they all had great games. Fosu and Hall can only do 70 minutes and Shandon wasn’t at the races, talented but inconsistent.
Henry worked hard and Taylor always finds good positions.
Sunderland have improved under Parkinson and have a very decent midfield.
Brilliant effort by squad to get to quarter finals. We are on the move.
Most hostile atmosphere?

Apparently they let Sunderland use their ground to train and prepare on yesterday.
I don't see what the big deal is. It was most probably a bit of business where they got paid which is fine. Sunderland were originally gonna use Whitelands in Bicester.

I'd say the turning point in the second half was their full back getting injured when he fouled Hall. He went off, they changed to a 4-4-2, and O'Nien also came on and gave them a lot more attacking threat. Before that, we played some good stuff, and Baptiste on a better day would have scored a couple if he'd shown the same composure as he did against West Ham. We got lucky with the two penalty decisions, one in each half. The ref seemed to want play to go on as much as possible.

Favourite comment on their forum was something along the lines of "Surprised the ref didn't wave play on when it went to penalties"!

Wow! Stop the world! We are in the quarter finals of the carabao cup.
Quite how we got there.... Well, who cares?
We were off the pace tonight and got away with one but, this is a massive, massive step forward for this club.
Tonight, we stuck it out and showed real heart.
Hall and Fosu were clearly spent by 65 minutes. Henry and Baptiste never got to grips with their midfield or the ball tonight. Taylor, unable to get into it. Gorrin worked hard but there were long periods where we looked like conceding.
For me though, Dickie, Moore and Long were immense tonight and when times were desperate, they were right there digging us out.
What an atmosphere here tonight and the penalty shootout in front of the east stand was just pure theatre.
To still go through after what was comfortably our worst performance of the season is absolutely bonkers but fantastic.
Credit to Karl and the whole team, we saw that you had to dig deep for that. Well done!
