Home Match Day Thread +++ 29/12/2018 OUFC v Bristol Rovers FC +++

Like Common Villager, we should all be very concerned. In addition to us supporters being cheated by things off the pitch, most of our players today cheated us on the pitch by often showing complete disinterest. Together with strange substitutions I really do despair at our management team. I still do not trust our Chairman & I wonder just what he is thinking as he snuggles into his First Class seat back to Thailand tonight. I do not believe he has offered any real cash to KR for the January window & I will not be surprised if Jordan Graham is the only real "name" we bring in. Those talking about Jayden Stockley & others need to get real - we are in a relegation dog fight & nobody will want to come here from a team doing well in League 2 nor drop down from the Championship to a team that may be playing in League 2 next season.
BTW Villager I don't reckon Neill McWilliams knows anything about potential stadium sites because all of that is a lie as well designed to keep us "happy".

Very depressing result today. I was prepared to put the boxing-day performance down to one too many port-and-lemons on Christmas day, and expected we could bounce back today. Instead, we were worse, much worse. For much of the game we seemed to have reverted to Blue Square Premiership tactics of hoofing the ball as far up the pitch as possible in the hope that nothing too bad would happen. The two we conceded were both unforgivable lapses in defence, for both you knew the goal was lost about 30 seconds before the ball crossed the line. In midfield we were unable to string more than two passes in a row together. After the 2nd went in our heads went down and it was obvious we weren't going to get a goal back, let alone a point. I don't want to take anything away from the Gas here, they wanted it more and played for it more, I just wish we could have put up a more convincing fight.

God, loosing at home makes me depressed

Have you heard anymore regarding transfers

Well in the brief chat I had, I had raised hands, that eyes look upwards and an indication that Nelson won’t sign no matter what. Not the best start to the day I have to say.

That guy from Norwich must of been so good that you can't even remember that he was called Carlton Morris.
Also I'm surprised you didn't get a job at the club in the recruitment department, considering your foresight of how good a player will be. Even Appleton thought Morris and Jak weren't good enough at the time.

Yeah, that’s the guy.

And yeah, even MApp made mistakes, another one being to drop Hylton ultimately making him wanting to leave.

Oh, and I would be great at picking players. Put it this way, I wouldn’t have done any worse than our last transfer debacle, but then most wouldn’t have.

Really poor today. Don't think Bristol are a great team by any stretch of the imagination, but they looked so much stronger than us and seemed to want it more. As was the case on Boxing Day, Browne, Henry and Mackie were all ineffective (Browne looked to be disinterested, injured or both), and the rest weren't much cop either.

I'm starting to think everyone was getting too far ahead of themselves after our half-decent run of form, including the players. After the talk of looking up the table, we now find ourselves needing to be very wary of what's going on below us again.

Although it's dangerous to do so mid way through the season I think we need a proper clear out. We're carrying too much dead wood. Holmes and Carruthers need to go back to Sheffield, Browne should be let go because I don't think his head is fully in it anymore. If there's any way we can send Garbutt back then do it. I'm glad Smith has gone, and same goes for McMahon when his exit is agreed.

We desperately need a striker that is a goal threat. We need more creativity in midfield. And if Nelson goes we desperately need another centre back. So not too much to ask!

On top of that, I asked Neil McWilliams after today's match when the 5 prospective stadium sites are going to be announced. Needless to say he wouldn't/couldn't answer. He didn't even churn out any bullshit. It was just nothing. Very worrying.

The poor form on the pitch just exacerbates the lack of direction and leadership off of it. I'm not only worried about relegation, but also what the hell Tiger is planning on doing with our club. Does anyone know yet?!

Happy New Year all!!!

Good post, sums things up currently down to a tee

Was really looking forward to coming back and watching three games, Southend, Bristol and... Plymouth (Just got to Devon). Talk about major disappointment! Southend offered little, we offered less. Rovers didn’t string 3 passes together second half, yet we didn’t trouble the keeper even once!.
And just an observation, how many easy chances does Nelson need to score? - (Cows ares, banjo, hit the target man!)

:mad::cry::cry::cry:

If we continue to play with Mackie up top on his own then we will be relegated, the fact that an out of position 33 year old is our only option up top tells it’s own story. No one has played well over the last two games, with some being awful, but the fact our lone centre forwards have managed 3 league goals in over half a season whoever has played is telling.

I still do not trust our Chairman & I wonder just what he is thinking as he snuggles into his First Class seat back to Thailand tonight.

Once he's selected his in flight entertainment, ordered dinner and donned his complimentary slippers, he'll give another little fist-pump at the thought of clinching Jordan Graham on loan. "That'll keep the mushrooms satisfied for now" he muses as he selects the option for the newly available film 'Smallfoot'...

Seems to me that we are back to where we were i.e. before our successful 13 game run-lots of injuries and a lean bench.
Today Brown,White and Mackie were nursing injuries, but had to play as we have no first choice alternatives.
During January, We are going to have to dig deep, very deep .

I must say that the fact they are L1 strikers being asked to play on their own is one of the problems. I fear that any striker we acquire in the next month might be asked to play the same role - with the same results. We need to play with 2 up - either next to each other or one behind the other - to get a partnership going. There is no point in a lone striker winning flick on headers or holding the ball up if there is nobody within 10 yards of him to receive it. Of course, Robinson would say we have three strikers, but we really do not - and again I fear that he is so wedded to one up top that isn't going to change in any meaningful long-term way.

Very very disappointing today, I really thought with our recent form things were definitely improving but Boxing Day and today it seems it’s back to square one and very worrying.
The body language from several of the Oxford players from the start was telling in a game they really needed to roll their sleeves up and battle. We were outplayed and outfought and that’s not acceptable.
Let’s hope we can go to Plymouth and find our spirit again or else all the good work in the last couple of months will be wasted.

The five sites spouted out by Tiger et al was in my eyes in frustration with their non dealings with Kassam and to try and make him squirm, but it was them that ended up squirming back to Kassam with their tails firmly between their legs.

When you say dig deep/very deep, do you mean Tiger or us (fans) with our emotions?

Like many of his recent choices, 'Smallfoot' promises a lot but fails to impress.

I’m of the same mind. That FF was quite surreal and I think NM and KR got carried away with some knee jerk comments, partly out of frustration and partly out of some misguided idea that it might shock FK into being more accommodating. Since the follow up press release, stating that some company had been employed by the club to help identify the sites ( whatever that meant) that quickly followed, there’s been nothing.

I meant the team.
Other than Graham and the return of Baptiste, unlikely to be any new blood quickly.
Add that to a reduced squad and mounting injury niggles and et voila .
Fans emotions are a given-after the last two games,
I did ask why are we driving to Plymouth on Tuesday !

Its what we do ...our team is forever, even if those currently the owners/ directors & team management etc appear to think we're mushrooms... OUFC supporters follow our team, ( even if we moan n whinge a bit along the way...its because we care!) through the good & not so so good times ..... Oxford til I die ;)
