Sorry, taken a while to reply, so the conversation may have moved on without me.....
.....but my arguments yesterday were not against the notion of bringing players in in January. Of course, we desperately need reinforcements. Ideally four players - CB, FB, DM & ST.
My argument is that I want to continue to find those players the same way we have in the past five-to-ten years.
Loans from higher division clubs; decent players that currently can't get a game in the Championship (e.g Matty T, Herbie K); and the occasional outlay of not more than a few hundred thousand for talented, young players that can add to the squad now and have the potential to grow into really valuable assets.
My argument is against the notion that we should suddenly abandon the model that has worked for us, and start splurging on players with a solely "win now" focus.
If we went ahead - as some people on here have advocated - and bought, for example, Cole Stockton, Nicky Cadden & Matty Stevens (or three players like them, whose value is going to be peaking right now) - that could easily cost us two million quid.
And it wouldn't guarantee us promotion either. It would just improve our odds.
