CWC 19: England V New Zealand

I tire of all this talk of 'this is a 350+ wicket' and pundits and fans making bold predictions after 10 overs. The beauty of the one-day game is the changing fortunes. England got off to a flier and have been pegged back by wickets. Vaughan says the pitch is changing. Maybe a bit of that but like so many sports having a set rhythm will yield the best results. NZ have disrupted that and England's scoring has slowed.

It's the same as the India v Bangladesh game yesterday. India were on for a massive score and were ably pegged back.

Woakes out trying to biff. This pitch needs a slow and steady total building from now on. No point in wasting wickets

By that logic though teams would never score 350-400 in one day games though and, recently, they do. In the same way teams can lose a load of wickets and fans and pundits worry they’ll be bowled out for a low score, and then they turn it round. You can only comment on what’s happening in front of you at the time, obviously things can change. I’ve seen formula one drivers win pole easily, lead all race and then make a mistake in the last lap and not win the race, doesn’t stop people talking about how they’re going to win easily etc before that happens.

Some fortune from Rashid and Plunkett pushing the total up. The pitch is gonna be a bitch to bat on 2nd
