Current Player #16 Tyler Burey

Eh ? A lot have ben there years. I'm saying that a few players where the current recruitment staff have clearly had a big input - and signed since DB has been here - can't get a start under him. Bennett, Matete, Burey and Goodwin. Two of those - Goodwin and Matete - should walk in to this team. DB told us Harris was knackered and in need of a bit of rotation, that hasn't happened for whatever reason. McGuane has been out of form, McEacheran too, yet Matete doesn't look like he's trusted. As for Burey, well he's just disappeared. There's half of the winter recruitment being under used.
On the basis of what i've seen on the pitch Matete doesn't look like he's fit. Goodwin is coming off the bench every game- if he "walks into the team" who walks out? Harris our top scorer.?

Burey is one of those players that seems to get better, the less he plays.

Des can't really win in this situation. He can't come out and throw him under the bus, but all the signs are there that something is amiss.

Matete is one where I think should be playing more, give MM another rest.

Matete started against Wigan, Wycombe & Orient, and frankly was really poor. So Des went back to McGuane despite the fact that he hasn't been great since September.

In fairness, I think part of that is because Matete doesn't fit the system Des wants to play - he's an all-energy brawler, not a controlled holding midfielder. He'd probably do better playing in Cam's role.....but he's not as good as Cam so that's not happening any time soon.

No, being a disruptive influence or causing disharmony amongst the rest of the squad would also be justifiable reasons to leave him out. Not saying that is what is happening, but if it was something like that couldn't we simply terminate his loan agreement?
We need players that deliver on match day not the training pitch. If Burey has an attitude problem that is for the manager to sort out, if he can't he should examine his own managerial ability. If he can't motivate a difficult player then he has to unload him.

If the (numerous) stories are true, then pretty much every manager Burey has ever had has given up trying to work with him. So you can't blame Buckingham for this one.

Which, if that is the case, brings us back to why the loan hasn't been terminated...

Because you can only terminate a loan outside of the transfer window if the player has a long term injury
Thanks, I thought that only applied to the club loaning the player. Good to know.

No, you're right, the squad should be selected based on how the manager personally feels towards an individual. Whether it's the squad that gives you the best chance to win the game or not is totally irrelevant, because results don't matter in football, all that matters is that everyone who plays for us is a lovely guy 🥰
What if hes taking the P**s, turning up late, not putting effort in, not staying on to work on extra bits of his game, yet he gets in the team because hes a bit good. Why then does anybody else bother doing the right things in training? Then everyone takes the P**s and the team becomes unmanageable.

Maybe not but let's not go absolutely overboard on Murphy and Dale. They are doing well, I didn't see the Pompey game where they were apparently very good but we still lost and only scored a penalty. Saturday, I thought Murphy was ineffective until his goal, which he took really well. Second half he was alright. Dale was the brighter of the two on Saturday, he's tenacious and as his goal proved he can get past a man on the outside, even though I don't think he's the quickest.

Can we rely on Murphy and Dale to carry this decent vein of form on though ? Burey is a different sort of wide player to both of these and I find it unfathomable as to why he can't make the 18.
In fairness Murphy and Dale were absolutely superb at Pompey. It’s definitely worth watching the match replay on Ifollow to see for yourself. However I know it may be hard to bring yourself to watch a full game, as we have been so uninspiring for so long!

Then why did we bring him in?
Des has got to find a way of playing that best suits the players he’s got.
I’m hugely disappointed with the football we’re currently playing whether we win or lose. It’s so pedestrian I’m not surprised the atmosphere at games is somewhat funereal.

But it's nice to bring on another fast winger, like for like not Henry But if there have been things going on then Des will make the decision, it just seems sad when we need results.

Well if it turns out he doesn't play again someone possibly recruitment should carry the can for it. A total waste of a loan.

Don't disagree - I would want to be using Matete as the sort of seek-and-destroy, all energy midfield weapon that helped both Sunderland and Plymouth get out of this league. I think it would help get us on the front foot more, and be both more exciting and more effective.

It just doesn't seem to be the City Group way though. They (and this would include Manning as well as Des) seem to want to control the tempo above all else, and McGuane is a much better fit for that. Which of course also means that there was a disconnect with recruitment. Because if they are not willing to adapt their style, they should have been trying to find a League One version of Rodri, rather than someone like Matete who has a very different skill set.

Oh I thought it was mentioned in last summers transfer window that he an attitude so i am surprised that we did sign him
He was labelled as having an attitude after he verbally clashed with a Millwall supporter who had, allegedly, racially abused him.

So, yeah, on that basis, he sounds like he’s a right wrong-un.
