I, as I'm sure all Oxford fans are, am willing GOD to do well and make an impact, but I think that everything that has happened this season has been completely detrimental to his development. He looks extremely unsure and very hesitant, scared to make a decision, scared to take a gamble and scared to assert himself (and with his physical presence, it should be one of his strongest assets). There was one shot (I forget who) that their keeper parried, and Donks should've/could've been there for the follow up, but inexplicably was nowhere near as he'd stopped running.

He needs to find a place where he can rediscover how to play to his strengths and become a threat again. And that's not 15 minute cameos at a struggling Oxford.

He needs to go backwards (a loan move out to national north/south level) to go forwards, get proper game time in at a level he can learn the game at and gain confidence. He has missed that part of his development out and it shows.

His 10 minute cameos could be covered by putting a centre half up front and be no less effective, so it’s not like we really need him here as cover as it’s achieving nothing for anyone, baffling why he hasn’t gone out on loan yet.

I’m not so sure he’s achieved nothing in those cameos. I recall a few games early season, when we were holding on to a slender lead, where his hold up play and shielding of the ball in the corners brought us valuable time. One game there was about 8 minutes of injury time and he must have had possession of the ball, as well as occupying the defence, for about 6 of those minutes. Now, I’m not saying we’d have conceded without his input but at least we didn’t have to go through the torture of finding out. Most definitely he needs to work on his finishing but some of the more workmanlike aspects of his game are better than NL South or North.

I don't disagree he needs to work on his finishing but I would like to know how many actual decent opportunities he has had in front of goal, in all of his appearances, because I don't remember us creating a whole load of chances for him.

Some aspects are better, some are not, let him go to a level where he can work on those weaker aspects, he isn’t getting a chance to do that here in ten minute cameos.

Harry Kane came on loan to this level with Leyton Orient when he was younger, then the championship, nothing wrong with dropping down to hone your craft.

Barnsley away springs to mind. Good effort and running up front, and set up Goodrham for the goal that took us out of sight.

Haven’t been on here for a while, so trying to catch up!

I think with Gatlin he’s very hit and miss, some games looks a real asset and others look well off it! Inexperienced will cause that, I do believe there is a good player in there though! I think coming from youth football scoring most games to the reality of being marked by experienced EFL defenders may have shook him a little!

And with Leonard, is there a chance still?

Only way I can see it happening is that we’ve completed the loan deal, and haven’t announced it due to the international clearance needed for Blackburn. This could still be feasible as most loans have a 14 day call back option from the club loaning the player, could be that Leonard is an Oxford player currently but we’re waiting for the news to drop about this American striker? So we didn’t announce it, and then he gets called back 4 days later etc.

I'm not a fan of these floaty-punted corners on the right from Cam - they just lose power and hang in the air and by the time they come off the likes of Moore's head, it's all fizzled out. Sometimes his inswingers struggle to clear the front post too. Strange because when it comes to long range shots, he can bend them no problem with pace and precision. I'd stick him on the edge of the box and give someone else a crack now and then.

I'm not going to apologise for fairly regularly mentioning it but Des needs to watch old coverage of the Joey/Matty Elliott near post corner routine.

I have to say, apart from his inability to get a clean strike away, he also needs to show some predatory instincts. He's very reactive to what's going on around him and doesn't show much in the way of anticipation or proactivity.

Having said that, whilst Burey has shown some encouraging signs, I can think of at least two instances in the last two games where Brannagan has pointed where he should be making a run.

Tbf, GO'D showed that predatory instinct with the run that created his 1st chance against Pompey. It was only a good block by the defender that stopped his shot.

His 2nd chance sadly was not as good.

It’s interesting to see how much instruction Burey gets during a match - from Cam and from the touchline (where he often seeks it) It’s like watching an apprentice (until he gets the ball at his feet, of course).

I suggested this scenario last week and today, it has appeared on X

Looks like the Duncan McGuire signing is still a bit of a mess.
It could collapse due to a registration error by Blackburn. They are still saying he's their player. Leonard wasn't in Blackburn's squad on Saturday. They said on Tuesday he was ill.

Every time Gatlin tries to use his strength him seems to give away a foul. Must be super frustrating for him, that he's curbed his physical presence somewhat. Needs that experience in how to best utilise it, which a loan spell at a National side you would hope would invariably bring.

Saying that can completely understand why he's in and around the squad as things stand.

Based on Des B's knowledge etc. I hope we are looking at some players in the A League, such as Wellington's keeper Alex Paulsen who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and is looking like having potential to be a very good keeper. I'd also hope we look at Central Coast Mariners who are producing and selling some very good young players with potential.

Don't think we can sign any players from the A-League though unless they happen to have a British passport, can we?

Need a work permit, and the A-League (like the Indian Premier League) won't get you enough points for one. Maybe if you were a full-time Australian or New Zealand international, you might get there, but someone like Paulsen wouldn't qualify (though obviously, I have no idea whether or not he has a Scottish grandmother or something.......)

We'll be able to sign 2 players without a work permit:

Players have already been making the move such as Sammy Silvera to Middlesbrough (he is a regular for them), Nectarios Triantis to Sunderland last summer. A few have made the move to Scotland in recent years as well.
