Transfer News January 2021/22 Transfer Window

He said play ‘ok’. To me that is around 6/10, do a job. You’re not going to have a whole squad of 8-9/10 Cameron Brannigans sitting on the bench and not even making the matchday squad maybe. You need some steady-eddie Anthony Forde’s who can do a job in 2-3 positions but won’t play every game.

Quality over quantity if you want to get up to the Championship. We need 2 players for every position to fight it out, I don't get this versatile player that can play other positions, you don't get this in other work like you don't get good plumbers downing their wrenches and cutters and switching to a chippy the next day doing staircases. Players are like trades a good one will stick to what they know they're good at, versatile players remind me of jack of all trades handymen.

Except you're then fucked if both of your right-backs get injured.

You may not get it but most do.

To be fair though I was unaware there was a squad cap in the building trade.

It’s more like if you had to go and start a new community in the Wild West, miles away from civilisation, with no form of communication, and can only take 50 people. Yes, you could and should take at least one brilliant doctor, but taking someone who’s both a decent builder and has some medical knowledge is probably a good idea…

Yes but can he play left back??

Okay, so we have a squad that consists of certain players that are only good against the shite in our league? To me, that’s an indication that we don’t have the standard of depth that we need for promotion.
And not stay there if we keep them

KR would take 1 doctor, 1 builder, 1 farmer, 47 wingers.

By there are times when both players in that position are out for whatever reason.

Well we've been very lucky that Seddon hasn't got injured considering we only have one left back. 2 in every position and don't forget under 21s don't effect the squad cap so we could rely on a youngsters if both recognise right backs were injured or suspended at the same time for example.

Forde is a decent player who hasn’t nailed a starting place. I think he has been unlucky because without the benefit of a regular position and regular game time, he has moved from one first team injury gap to another as cover.
Some of his performances have suffered for this but that doesn’t mean that can’t cut it.
There have been a few games where he has been superb.
Few teams have quality cover for all positions. We should be happy that we have him here helping out.

There is no need to debate the makeup of a perfect squad. Karl already laid it down on tape several years ago, and has stuck to it religiously ever since.

Ive just realised KR narrows his eyes and sweeps his hair back when he has good business to announce 😁

Back at the end of October Scotchers assured us on this thread that we were “targeting a new striker” and that I was being negative in suggesting this wouldn’t happen this January. But the OM this morning suggest Whyte’s role will be adapted to be that striker. Better quickly adapt that ITK information, eh, Scotch?

Well, normally if you take what Karl says in the press on transfer activity and reverse it you’re on the money, so Scott Chegg was probably right

To be fair, Gavin had a brilliant game against Italy, playing as a second striker/false 9. Imagine Taylor and Whyte up top for the last half an hour. He’s also played up top for us before and he scored a second half hat trick against Shrewsbury. Yes, we do need a new striker, but I’m absolutely not against Whyte up top.

Nor me. Certainly our best option as it stands.
The new striker will arrive in the summer.

I suspect this is a message to Winnall and/or Agyei to step up or Whyte will overtake them in the pecking order

He could probably play with Taylor but instead of him as a lone striker I'm not so sure. Can't imagine his hold up play is anywhere good enough for that.
