Home Match Day Thread 26/12/2020 L1 OUFC v AFC Wimbledon

I’ve decided I fancy Jack Stevens now. I can imagine him on holiday with Gorgeous George. Dubai, probably. Pastel coloured shirts (unbuttoned) with soft, white cotton shorts and a nice pair of deck shoes.
That's what they wore on the Titanic.

Sorry, I disagree with that. We played well early on, and got two goals, and dominated.

Yes they came back into it, and we sat back, but we also defended well and with character and effort.

If we had lost that 2-0 just like Wimbledon, you’d also be saying we are rubbish surely? So we can’t win!!
Sorry we didn’t dominate. We did defend well but why did we have to keep defending why we’re we allowing them to have so many attacks?
Yes 2-0 and three points but that was hard work when we started so well, but dominate we didn’t.

Just very pleased with the three points, scored 2 very good goals and battled to the end to keep a clean sheet and Jack was brilliant in goal. A few weeks ago we would have definitely lost this game.
We are slowly pulling away from the bottom four, I’m now going to have a beer to celebrate that.

If he can get his kicking sorted out he’ll have a good career.

Bingo. We can't gloss over that part of his game. If the opposition push up and stop the short ball option, Stevens has to go long and his hit-the-bylines long kicks often go out of play. It's a very easy way of losing possession.

That can be improved though. Have a plan for when that high press at defensive positions occurs and accommodate for it.

I guess we took our chances and they didn't.
I think that tells its own story. That for one player having the game of his life wed have likely lost against AFC Wimbledon at home..

Robinson is absolutely tactically numb, a simple change had him completely flummoxed.

Its 3 points, of course thats always the aim, but we are so far from being a "good" team.

Also, word for Jordan Obita because I really like him as a player.

Defensively disciplined, calm on the ball and if he ever gets it in a wide position, his instinct is one touch and whip it in - and he's got an absolute wand for a left foot (unfortunately his right is clearly only for standing, otherwise he should have bagged himself a second midway through the second half). Must be fun for Matty Taylor knowing that he can expect quality delivery from both flanks.

He's not flashy like some left wings we've had, but I think he's going to be more effective than most.

Well , time for a beer . 3 points and a great goalie
Could be worse , look forward to Tuesday and hope more like the first 20 minutes then the rest of the game.

Thanks for the 3 points lads.
My brother Sarumox, who died suddenly a week before Christmas Day, would be well pleased that we are starting to look a bit more promising this season.
so sorry to hear of your loss, it's never easy especially at Christmas time. I lost my dad in January 2018 and like to think of him watching down on his team with a smile on his face

I meant we dominated early on; when we were scoring the two goals. Not the whole game obviously

Totally agree. I also think it's worth noting that it's more or less since he came into the team (just before the Crewe game) that we've improved. He obviously brings an experience and authority that was previously lacking.

Stop kicking long, play out from the back. When we have the ball, the opposition cannot score.

To be fair, the Wombles were closing us down like mofos from the midway point of the first half on.
Most times we tried the short ball out from the back after that, we ended up playing ourselves into trouble in a hurry.

I said this a lot last year, but it's also true this season as well - if you're playing OUFC and you sit back and let us play it out calmly from the back, we're going to pick you to pieces. But work hard and keep a high press on our backline going, and we can be thrown off our game.
