Our midfield absolutely infuriates. I get some of these haven't been playing regularly which gives them some excuse, but either Robinson is playing them in roles they can't play or the quality just isn't there.
Kelly - if he's supposed to be a quarterback midfielder I dread to think how an American football team who only ever pass five yards sideways does well. Plays like someone obsessed with his passing percentage rather than ever helping the team do anything constructive. Also gives away needless fouls constantly and throws out his arms in exasperation. At least when Gorrin gives away a foul it's normally to break up play.
McGuane - just not sure what he's supposed to be good at. Seems disinterested at times, takes an age on the ball and comes across as a liability in his own half. The odd flash here and there but nowhere close enough to be a starter. For someone with a history of Arsenal and Barca must be crushingly disappointed where he is now. I'm certainly disappointed too.
Sykes - see above, just not sure what he's supposed to be good at. Every now and again dances forward and shows his pace or hits a decent effort, but his game is littered with mistakes. Heavy touches and hospital passes aplenty. Really expected him to push on this season but can't seem to find a position and seems to be reliant on the odd flash over 90 minutes rather than sustained productivity.
On the other hand to the negativity and frustration above, we weren't actually all that bad today aside from the two mistakes (or three if you count the ref/assistant/FIFA's offside rules). And I bloody love Forde. Just never stopped running and at least proves a square peg in a round hole can sometimes be the best player on the pitch.
Big shout out to Shodipo who I thought was excellent as well. And the two centre-backs.
Ah well, at least means a tiny bit of extra recovery time for the league campaign.
