OUFC Transfer Deadline Day Thread - Jan 2019

As I recall, Roofe hadn't done much in previous loan spells before he came to us. Who's to say that Sinclair won't find his mojo with us?. He's clearly got the talent, just needs the right stage to come good. Let's give him the support he needs and the diamond may come out of the rough.

As far as transfer windows is concerned, other clubs have had worse and we certainly have worse ones in previous seasons.

I’m pleased with Sinclair signing, and if he shows promise hopefully we can find a way of keeping him. He must have talent, has been around senior football so let’s hope we’re his breakthrough club. I’m sure we will but let’s give him a big cheer on Saturday and really get behind him.

But for me Tiger and co have taken a big risk. We are floating around the relegation zone and another signing in the mould of Mackie / Hylton was what we needed.

If our board are serious about the playing side then they’d have taken the financial hit and invested more in a short term experienced striker to increase the odds of staying up. Most Ox fans are realistic, we don’t expect the earth but another striker was needed. An experienced striker to share the workload with Mackie would actually keep Mackie fresh and we’d get even more out of him.

For me it is yet another sign that Tiger is not good for us. We need to keep giving the team 100% support, but have to keep on Tiger’s case.

I'm struggling to see how this transfer window has been anything other than a disappointment to be honest.

We started the month with pretty much everyone in unanimous agreement that what we needed was a proven striker, perhaps even two. The suggestion from those at the club was that this issue would be addressed, and quite frankly it hasn't been.

I really do hope that Sinclair goes on to be the next Roofe (which is very much a possibility), but there's also a good chance he could just be another Smith or Tyler Roberts. That's why we so desperately needed a striker that has consistently proved that they can score goals at this level or above.

Despite the failure to find such a striker, I think the signing of Graham has already began to bear fruit so that is a major positive. He's already added some much needed balance and width to our play. The jury is still out on Sykes and Kashi though. So far it does seem one is very much for the future and the other is just here to provide a bit of experience and midfield cover (I'll let you decide which is which).

When you consider that a couple of big earners left during the window in Holmes and McMahon, as well as Raglan, Smith, Norman and Dai, it does raise further questions over Tiger's ability/willingness to provide the necessary funds for us to be successful.

Will we go down? Who knows. Our recent results and performances in the league have shown a lot of improvements, but it's very tight down the bottom and a couple of quality players would almost certainly have made a big difference. Had we signed Pittman/Vaughan/Hylton I'd have been feeling a lot more confident.

Regardless, it is what it is now. We must make do with a threadbare squad for the next 3 months and hope they can accumulate enough points to see us safe. Despite feeling very negative about Tiger and the state of the club, I'll back the team on match days as I always do.

Downside to "social media" it gives the thick and unstable a platform where they think they are "right".
When they are corrected you are defined as a bully/troll/hater.

That aside, the lad could happily be the next Roofe but give him a chance to kick a ball ffs.

I am very disappointed not in who we bought in but for the whole way the window went.
Pros:
- We have another striker (all be it of questionable effectiveness, we shall see)
- We have replaced the forever injured Holmes with a better player
- We have bought another young lad with future potential
- We have more cover for defensive midfield (did we need it?)
- We may already have the strength we need to stay up (I think we will be relying heavily on it)

Cons:
- We have no dedicated senior right backs. Hanson is questionable in this position
- We still only have Garbutt as cover for left back another position that needs strengthening
- We now have little senior cover for center back
- We seemed to have approached the windows with little or no plan
- The striker search was fascicle
- No real money was spent strengthening the team for the relegation battle despite promises (money was only spent of future players)
- There was endless nonsense and lies spouted by the owner and manager again
- We seem to have missed out on nearly all of our targeted players
- We look even more like a club with money issues
- This windows was a repeat of the summer we have learnt nothing

Way forwards:
- The scouting needs to get a heck of a lot better
- We need in depth analysis of why we are missing out on so many players
- If we are struggling for money the manager and owner needs to admit to themselves we are not a big club chasing promotion we need to start thinking like the smaller clubs and pick lesser targets
- The squad definitely needs balancing buy only the players for areas of weakness
- No more players for tomorrow unless they can play today
- Is the U23 side a luxury that is damaging the first teams budget?? if so get rid for now
- Keep your blinking mouths shut KR and Tiger fans aren't stupid neither is the wider world. The impression we are giving is that we are a club in a shambles.
- Get your best players under extended contracts earlier (we will loose key players in the summer)
- Lay off the blinking loan system. One or two good, five or more is not building anything lasting.

I am angry. The club appears an utter mess and I wouldn't trust KR to be able to sign an autograph never mind a player. i am hoping our existing talents is enough. Graham is a good additon and who knows Sinclair could be revelation. On the whole though we need to get much better in these windows to fix the utter mess are squad is in. Otherwise as the saying goes "Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it ".

Is that the Tyler Roberts that's at Leeds and a Welsh international? also ripped us a new one while playing for Walsall !it just goes to show as Mapp said at the time it sometimes takes time for a player to develop and we had him too early.

We didn't take the money and sell Nelson though!

Sounds like he bought himself out of his contract. Good, we needed another option up front. That completes the squad
Ah, didn't know that could be done. So when Tohir takes over, he could buy Mo Salahs contract out at Liverpool ?

Thats hope but odd .... it appears we have got him?
This suggests it fell through as a transfer - assume couldn't get it over the line - so he did the smart thing and made himself OOC.The silence is deafening though. Either Tiger hasn't read the forum this morning or is teflon tiger. Sure I think they at least scan these forums.

What has what he's done after leaving us got anything to do with it? Sam Smith might go on to play in the Premier League, does that mean he was a success during his time here?

Jordan Graham is a fantastic signing at our level. We don't know about Sykes yet, but Kashi adds experienced depth and some flexibility and Sinclair is a bit of an unknown. With Carruthers (touch wood) getting back to fitness, it's like signing another player. The squad is materially better than it was 6 weeks ago. It's annoying to lose out on Vaughan, but not the end of the world either.

As we saw on Tuesday, if the players keep that form up, we'll be ok at the end of the season. There are undoubted issues at OUFC, but as fans, we need to take a collective breath and stop moaning so much.

Does it not show what relevance a players form at a previous club means, but you just dismiss him now to try and amplify your point.
