Rahul is out for the third Test and Jadeja has yet to be confirmed.
Leach and Kohli are both out for the series.
India must be favourites to win 3 1 or 4 1, but England have generally competed very well and have half a chance.
Win the toss, and one or two batsmen score big- come on!

India have such depth though that even with good players out, their replacements would be starters in most other test sides!

Bumrah is the one player we could do with not playing, we’d be 2-0 up if it wasn’t for him!

Day 1 of the Third Test at Rajkot.

India won the toss and chose to bat. They at 93/3 at lunch.

Rohit, and Jadeja at the crease.
Sharma was dropped by Root in that first session on 27, but England have bowled well. Wood has come back in and taken two wickets. He removed Jaiswal, and Gill. Hartley grabbed the other wicket of Patidar. Hopefully we can get a couple more wickets, and try to get a stronghold on this test match.

We could really have done with winning the toss
Need a wicket as Rohit and Jadeja have put on 100

Yeah Big partnership being formed here. Need a wicket badly.

Sharma approaching a century, and Jadeja over 50.

India 165/3

Yep finally Sharma falls for 131. Shame Root dropped him on 27.

Mark Wood 3 wickets. Need to get Rivindra Jadeja out now.

Rather similar to the second Test, all it takes is one decent partnership and the game can get away from you.

England will need a Rohit-style innings from someone for parity at least.

Ah, the old 'Yes/No' run out 😁 India 315/5, a bonus wicket at the end of the day. Mark Wood with the hit.

Close of play India 326/5

Glad to see that partnership ended, between Jadeja and Sarfaraz. He was looking dangerous and accelerated to score quite quickly.

Lots to do tomorrow for England, get these last five wickets, and then we can focus on batting. A puff a dust every now and then from the spinners, so it will do a bit for Ashwin/Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav when they bowl at some point tomorrow. Plenty of runs on the board I feel gives India the first day.

If it gets anywhere near or above 400, you'd think England would have a mountain to climb (they don't do draws anymore, so whatever happens tomorrow is critical).

India 443/9

That’s it. India all out 445.

Over to the England Batsmen. Hopefully we don’t get rolled over cheaply.

445 all out.
England need a couple of big innings to stay in this game
I heard a stat that in the last 25 years India have only lost 2 Tests when winning the toss and batting first.

On measure, about a 100 too much given the start England had. Too many runs in the tail.
The pitch is starting to act up as well, this is going to be a tough one for the top order.

England given a bonus 5 runs for India running down.the pitch earlier.
