CWC- England v Pakistan

Looks like it could be the best finish so far (if we don't lose too many more wickets!)

No, the match has gone - these two are having trouble getting the ball off the square!

No it is the good Pakistan that turned up but England have been poor (Root and Buttler excepted)
Moeen cant come good at last,?

Oh dear ! ..... relying on moeen to deliver &he hasnt for a while (with the bat)

Oh double dear 320-8 ....looking unlikely now

Nevermind death bowling ....england are expert death batsmen.... 1 wicket left seems not quite good enough ....costly fielding earlier imo

Bad day from the start. Poor from Morgan to put them in. High scoring ground so bat first.
Plunkett is the best middle overs bowler in the world so say the stats and we drop him!?
Some poor bowling and fielding. Batting was steady but apart from two not good enough. And Moeen should be dropped. His batting is pitiful and hard to watch at the moment and has been for a while. He looked like a rank tail ender out there today. A big wake up call.

Not great all round really, but I think we lost this in the Pakistan innings with a poor bowling/fielding display. The batting was a bit careless at times though, and they never really managed to keep up with (or get ahead of) the required rate.

Next England match is Saturday vs Bangladesh (Cardiff)

Omit those errors in the field and England win that. Those were very uncharacteristic and dogged England all through the Pakistan’s innings.

It’s not often you have two centurions and lose in what was a record World Cup chase. Plenty to learn from that and the batting department looks reasonable too.

As for Pakistan, beaten 4-0 by England, 5-0 by the Aussies, pants down against the Windies, 11 defeats in a row - and then they pull that out of the bag! Well done to them.

Mmm not sure that Moeen should be dropped. He was probably our best bowler today.

England have looked a little nervous and tense so far, so today's result isn't a huge surprise. They slightly wilted at times today, BUT, it will hopefully refocus some minds and give a sense of urgency. They had a big reality check

I fear we are seeing the decline of Moeen as a batsmen. In rotten form again, looks like he doesn't know what end of the bat to hold and really in terms of mindset, looks a long way behind other players in the team.

Just awful our fielding was dire, Pakistan didn’t exactly play well defensively either which makes thing worse I wished we choose to bat first and made Pakistani do the chasing

So any team can probably get away with three defeats in this tournament, and still make the semis (as long as they don't have too many rainouts).
But with Australia, India and New Zealand being our last three games.....we could do without any more 'shock defeats' from the likes of Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the next couple of weeks; else it's going to be tense towards the end of the group stage.

On the one hand, I don't think we'll field that poorly again in the tournament; was was below our usual standards.
On the other, if there's a genuine concern from today, it's that our opening pair have looked distinctly less dominant than previously when they're playing against spin first up; bit of a worry that South Africa may have identified a way to nullify one of our chief threats (although I don't think there's anything anyone can do to nullify Root or Jos Buttler).

From a neutral perspective, though, today was exactly what the tournament needed. A great game and a Pakistan team showing serious signs of life.....they may be a threat for the semis after all, which certainly didn't look to be the case on Friday, and the more threats the better as far as the competition goes.
