Home Match Day Thread +++ 31/08/2019 L1: OUFC vs Coventry City +++

Just having a little read of their forums and many Coventry fans are saying what we already know, we are a f*****g good side.
On the whole, they were expecting to see out for 3 points but were happy to concede that our football was more than worth the point.
Most think that we will be right up there this season and we’re the best side they have played so far.

By the way, they hate Mackie!??????

Did his wife not sell the sofa?

Thought he should have done better with the free kick, but he made up for it with the one on one save.

Just think his positioning for free kicks has been questionable. He seems to leave too much space on the wall side of the goal. If he stands another half a yard I think he gives himself a better chance of saving it/them.

His mrs’s moved back up north and he’s living with a couple of the players in the meantime..

The amount of crosses we are getting into the box and the amount of corners we are racking up would suggest that Forde and Henry don't need to go past players with speed to deliver a good ball into the box...Whyte had speed but his end product was poor last year, we now have Forde, Henry, Cadden, Brannagan who can all deliver a fantastic ball...Fosu and Baptiste are the players to drive past the opo...5 of those 6 players are also ours...
Beckham wasn't very quick, but he made up for it with his talent and vision, providing countless assets with his crosses and passes overs the years, and I feel the same principle applies to Henry.

It's important to have a blend of pace and poise in any team, but we do seem to be a bit light on the pace side of things throughout the squad right now, so hopefully the players that are apparently coming in over the next day or two, along with Agyei, can help get the balance right, as with a bit more pace in key areas, I think we would've won pretty much every game this season, apart from the Burton game, where they showed just how important pace in key areas is, every time they broke.

A bit more pace, to complement the clear talent thats already in the squad, and we'll be very hard to stop.

Still feeling pretty optimistic!

Wrong IMO, the family area is at the other end of the NS, a child sitting there would have been unaware of any problems at yesterdays game
Really? I sit there as it’s the only way I can afford to take my daughter and everybody at that end is fully aware of what’s going on

Very hard to stop? 5 points indicates were probably more hard to actually start.....

Three-all draw, bit of atmosphere and loads of whining about the crowd. Get a life.
I'm all for back and forth banter between fans, creating a feisty, combative atmosphere, but when there's a sustained threat of violence and fans actually trying to get to each other, thats another level, and isn't acceptable, especially when we're trying to work with councils etc to find a new site for a stadium, the risk of violence or disruption from our own fans isn't gonna help our cause much is it?

I think it's those thugs that are the ones who need to get a life.

Well feelings run high especially in the lower leagues we’re proper fans from the local area, people take exception when away fans take the P**s or try too. The atmosphere was the best I’ve seen in ages at the Kassam once we got going and got our first goal Bottles were thrown by cov fans when They scored maybe that started the who ha!!!

Very impressed with Oxford yesterday.

Deffo the best team we have faced this season and given us far more problems than anyone else in the league.

Our midfield was exposed badly in the second half and you dominated in the flanks in the main...hence the amount of crosses and corners.

Be surprised if you aren’t challenging for the Play Offs come the end of the season.

In terms of the trouble....it was mostly the usual verbals/gestures etc but at 2-0 your lot were struggling with the vocals and wind ups hence the feeble attempt to come across....stewards were very stand offish and at other grounds similar ‘intent’ might have brought about a fair few more ejections.

But conceded 3 too. That’s 12 goals conceded in our last 4 games meaning we have to potentially score more than 3 goals to win a game.

I think we’re just switching off defensively in moments as generally we’re defending ok.
I'm no expert, but it seems to me that maybe we could benefit from an experienced CB to play alongside Dickie.

Moore had his best game for us yesterday, but as I said in an earlier post, he does seem a bit slow and immobile, and I'm not sure he's going to be the answer to be honest, I hope I'm wrong.

But Mous, Cadden and Ruffels are not natural defenders, they're midfielders who have been converted into playing as defenders, and it shows.

I really thought Ruffs had found his natural position last season, as he's pretty average as a midfielder, but does seem a lot better at LB, but hasn't performed to the same levels so far this season, and maybe he's not being pushed enough by genuine competition for the LB spot, but hopefully it will click for him again soon.

Positioning seems to be the main flaw with this defence, individually and as a unit, and thats why I was hoping for some specialist defenders over the summer, with an experienced CB part of that.

But hopefully given a bit more time, they'll start to iron out the creases, but they need to do it sooner rather than later, so we don't keep dropping points in games that we should be winning, and falling too far behind the top 8.

The atmosphere was great, in support of the team, and I was absolutely loving it, and had nearly lost my voice by the end of the match, I was going mental!

But the trouble in the North stand was not acceptable, simple as that, it doesn't matter who started it, our fans could've just sang our songs in their direction, even louder, whilst roaring on the team, they didn't need to descend into a bunch of neanderthals like that.

If opposition fans want to behave like that, let that be their problem, just sing our songs even louder, whilst we focus on supporting the team, and getting the points.

The point was being made about our attacking ability but as usual kip had to change the subject

The atmosphere was soul destroying for at least 60 minutes. There was nothing from the Oxford fans until we got into the game a bit. The Coventry fans were right when they asked if it was a library.

I wouldn’t really class the posturing as ‘trouble’ either. I was a few seats away and not once did I feel threatened nor did the couple sat in front of me. I’ve felt more threatened walking through Oxford on a Saturday evening.

The (mainly) old Coventry fans that were posturing were just on the wind up from what I could tell. If people had really wanted to get across the Ox head flag held down by cable ties then they could.

Agree with posters that the atmosphere definitely improved and it was good for the final 25 mins or so. I accept that people don’t like the behaviour and I think it’s fair enough not to want it at football but I think it’s going to come with the territory of sitting in a stand split between home and away fans (10ft apart).

My point was that for all our attacking prowess, we have 5 points. 2 own goals yesterday but generally cant hit a cows a**e with a banjo.

It reminds me of when we were losing repeatedly under Pep but people were getting stupidly excited about our lovely passing.
