Wasn't expecting that but another show of intent. I don't know that much about the guy, although I recognise the name from when he was in the Premier League years back. The fact that Leigh is possibly missing for a month or so and rather than make do with Brown there we've gone out and added a specialist left back, also allowing Brown to move back inside, is good news.

Took Des two games to conclude that Brown really isn't a natural LB and is better off as a left-sided CB.
There are plenty of people who have been watching Ciaron Brown play left back for the last two years who still don’t see a problem with it, so that he’s seen it inside two games gives me confidence.

A proper left back with Brown moving back to left sided CB where he’s at his best can only be good news. Good to see the club not leaving anything to chance.

I'm pretty confident that there are some fans who think a new manager and a clean slate is the perfect opportunity for Eastwood to get his place back.

If on a deal till the end of the season, he’d score a fair few in our side id bet & is a good professional

Sharp turns 38 in February. He's more than four years older than Matty Taylor, who many thought looked already washed up last year.

So depends if he can still move or not!

Maybe he was posting on here as OX4Yellows or CowleyOx or something getting involved in the never ending debate of "is Brown a left-back" over the last few seasons, arguing passionately that he's a left sided CB!

I’d only take him on a 6 month deal but if his wages weren’t overly prohibitive, it wouldn’t be the worst move but probably goes against our recruitment plan but some experienced heads wouldn’t be the worst idea

We need two strikers. One to replace what Perkins was supposed to be and one to replace what GO'D will one day be.

The former absolutely needs to be a proven goal scorer. The latter should be well on the way to being one, to be honest.

One or both will cost a fee, whether permanent or on loan. Both should be ready to start, but can be used at our discretion.

I'd like a combination along the lines of the following: Freddie Ladapo on loan from Ipswich for the rest of the season - absolutely proven at this level, fit and ready to go (a 'sure thing' without the long-term contract - put the cash into a big loan fee and wage contribution) together with the 6-figure purchase of Will Goodwin (4 goals and 2 assists in 7 starts since Clarke took over) - who offers something different physically and is one for the future (transfer fee, but reasonable wages).

Bit of ying and yang, both immediate upgrades on their counterparts and both have shown aptitiude for scoring goals at this level.

It's bold, it's confident - promotion is there for the taking so we need to be.

Bloke stands near me thinks that Eastwood is the best goalie at the club and he was our best player last season, every game I expect him not to be there as he has been sectioned but not happened yet.

I moved to York for a year a few months back and have been going to York City's games to get my fix this season, a few National League players who've caught my eye so far:

1. Idris Kanu, Barnet - Incredibly skilful winger who Posh signed a few years ago but traded in to get Mason-Clarke out of Barnet. Not sure what happened in this spell at Posh, but no one could tackle him all game and even the home fans were clapping him when he got subbed off against York. Barnet have played him at wingback a few times this season so could be a really aggressive wingback option...? (Posh usually sign all of Barnet's best players because of Barry Fry's connection but you'd think they wouldn't go in again for Kanu meaning he might be up for grabs).

2. Wes Fonguck, Southend - Strong, elegant midfielder who keeps the ball well and progresses it. Seemed destined for bigger things when he was a teenager, but looks like he's regained his confidence this season in a turbulent Southend team.

3. Jake Hastie, Hartlepool - 24 yo winger with a greedy eye for goal, pace and confidence. Had a spell in L1 as a teenager with Rotherham and has always promised much but seems to have been held back by attitude. Might be one to look at as he enters peak years and if he's maturing.

York's striker Dipo Akinyemi would be the profile of striker I'd love to see at Oxford: physical presence, eye-catching technical ability, intelligent in build up play, and quick in behind. Shame they signed him for a fee in the summer!

Weren’t we reported to have shown interest in Kanu last summer?

This is the kind of geeky non league reporting I love to see

Dipo Akinyemi was top scorer at my second team Ayr United and was player of the season in their league. Ayr seemed happy to sell him to York because they were apparently paid £200K, more money than had ever been heard of.
