Away Match Day Thread 12/09/20 L1 - Lincoln City v OUFC

Lincoln demonstrating how well MApp drills his teams. As we know. They will be difficult to break down In second half.
We desperately need some creativity. Ruffles seems to be most effective option down the left wing - Sykes missing in action. Not sure he is the left wing answer.
We look tidy but not threatening in the middle of the park - but Branaghan, Kelly and McGuane all a bit samey - need one of them to press forward and look to run Taylor in between the lines.
The Long/ Henry link just doesn’t work down the right. Hitting curving long crosses into their box from 30 yds out just feeds their big CBs.
Long’s first touch not good enough and he “shanks” most of his attempted crosses. Honest endeavour but lacks quality - feel like we have been saying this for 3 years now!
So lots of possession but must do more creatively with it or it’s going to be one of those afternoons.........

Lots of spinning like a bottle top before passing the ball backwards / sideways from McGuane again. He isn’t the only player not at it so far, but this is becoming a worrying staple of his play. The team needs to start carrying the ball forward quickly, getting the ball into feet up front and then looking to break the lines. Nowhere near enough intent from most of the team, and far too much giving it to Henry and hoping he slings in a decent cross.

Need to move up a gear second half. Get level before 75/80 minutes and it’s there to be turned around.

In many ways, I've missed football.

In equal measures, I have not.

We are far too quick to jump on the team and stick daggers in their back. We are 45 minutes into a season and some people are already losing the plot.

Honestly. Get behind the f*****g team instead of putting them down after a single half of league football, against a well organised Lincoln side!

COYY!!!
That's rubbish. This is a forum and people are commenting on what they are watching. That isn't 'sticking daggers in their back' and from the tone of most of the posts, people are seeing the same thing.
We are fans, but not fanboys who won't mention it if we think things aren't going well!

Not playing badly, just need a bit of creativity and unpredictability. McGuane at CDM, Sykes in the middle and Cooper on the left, please.
Not playing badly? We may have more than the possession but we ain’t got any iseas

5/1 for us to win the game. Good odds. hoping for a second half turn around and an opening day windfall

We’re missing two good wide players and a right back. Say the ball is received by an Oxford player out wide. The Lincoln defence know they won’t be run at, the ball will either be swung into Taylor - how will he score with three Lincoln centre backs on him? Or it will be passed inside and the defence can reset

There is objective criticism and writing off our season and some of the players after 45 minutes. A bit of perspective is needed, at a time like this..

Nope, no criticism allowed, every fan must sing and shout and back their team without any negativity - even if you have no shots in 45 minutes of football whilst bossing possession.
