General Radox 5 minute Forum

if things were happening in the background one would think that Niall,Zaki and Tiger would be aware so to state definite news around May was at best not well thought through.

We live in a world where everyone wants to know everything (Yesterday) whilst others are keen to be seen as knowing everything a long time before.

Both Zaki and Tiger have already said it was a mistake to put a time limit on an announcement.

I didn’t listen, but was there a subtle change in the “you’ll have definite news about the stadium by the end of the season” to “you’ll hear when we have something to tell you”?
And surely now it starts to become clear why our ambition shifted in January. Something changed drastically and suddenly a ROI looked further away than ever.

@Robie
Indeed. NMcW obviously thought that there WOULD be something to say at the end of the season though - so you have to presume that whatever plans they made are not as advanced as they thought they would be when he said that.

There's a few options regarding NMcW. Was there actually genuinely supposed to be news? Was he told that there was going to be news (lied to?) Did he act alone and pluck the timescale out of thin air in an attempt to appease people, pissing off those above him? If the strategy of the board is to keep kicking the can down the road, there's only so long that it can go on for before even Scotchegg will lose faith.

Interesting how everyone wants to know everything about the goings on behind the scenes, loves a little gossip, and reads everything into any half story or comment from the board. During each transfer window, these pages are flooded with people wanting information.

But when information is provided then it suddenly becomes crass to share this knowledge. But only if it's right, they love pointing out when it's not!

So I know it goes against everything some want to say, but yes we did have a deal in place for Grigg only for it to be pulled at the last minute, as I said. And yes, we did everything we could to bring O'Donnell in, and he was initially open to a move, but changed his mind just before the Newcastle game, as I said.

I was also the first to say that deals were done for Holland and Kelly, although got Marcus Browne wrong for those wanting to have a dig!!

So, money really wasn't a problem, both deals were accepted by the selling clubs. But we wasn't going to compromise the talent we were looking at once these deals fell through.

So feel free to ignore what I post, or jump in with little personal jibes, but maybe some can climb off their high horses for a little while!
And we are all so grateful that you are so well connected and in your words "knows everything about the goings on behind the scenes". Keep it up.

I didn`t listen either but I know we aren`t moving anytime soon and the pressing matter of the lease will arrive long before any "move".

PS: I am not "ITK" , friends with, drinking buddies with, related too or knobbing anyone at the club or on this forum.

Thanks.
? ?
Well, that's a relief.

There are standards to maintain, you know?

Don't see why Niall would pluck a timescale out of thin air that would be very unprofessional

I quite like the 5 min phone in, but wish it was longer. It’s important for the board and manager to interact with the fans. The only time I never bother is when Niall is on. Never answers the questions, and goes around the houses, to avoid what’s being asked. I’m sorry but I find him incredibly boring, and a wasted five minutes.

If the board clearly don’t think we are ready, then KR should use that in the dressing room, and go out and achieve it. Then give the board a rude awakening.

Or could it be that those working on the stadium project are not the ones who are usually in the media, and in fact are very good at keeping their counsel while things progress behind the scenes............................
Well this has come from somebody who probably is in the know but refuses to pass on confidential information.
To me what Colin says there is worth far more than some of the speculation on here.

Went over and above and excelled himself at the end of the January window in recruiting full back(s) and a striker didnt Mark Thomas ?....and until tues night 2020 has been a brilliant run of results over 6weeks ? ..... no he didnt, and no it wasnt

Whether a director of football would have made a difference or not we'll never know

But maybe the head of recruitment should be advance recruiting now in time for the close season in readiness for the big rebuild thats likely to be needed?
You can have the best HoR/DoF in the world, but if the other factors outside our control don't come together then there is not a lot we can do.

From what I understand the club have lists of players in every position that are of interest in various situations. But if the other club doesn't want to sell/loan, or the player doesn't want to move (at all/at that particular time), or the players agent wants more money, or the deal can't be reached in budget/in stretch budget, injuries, etc etc then there is not a lot the club can do. I am sure fans would love us buying our 57th choice right back for too much money just because.
Within the bounds of what is within the rules, I am sure we will already be talking to clubs/players/agents for the summer - but I am sure they will be holding off on making decisions until the summer.

My take on it, is there seemed to be some momentum re: new land/stadium a few months back which led Niall etc to believe that a deal would be done before the end of the season. I vaguely remember that we heard this from other sources within the club e.g. Tiger & Zaki.

It now appears that timeframe has shifted for whatever reason, hence the moving of the goalposts. (Not literally unfortunately!)

Personally, I still believe that Tiger et al are continuing negotiations etc in confirming this land/stadium, but that the real money men won’t get fully involved (financially) until the i’s are dotted and the t’s crosses, hence the poorly managed transfer window in the latter stages and offloading assets to ensure Tiger can financially run the club without putting himself/club further in the red, especially if the whole project (finding land/building new stadium) doesn’t come to fruition.

The bit that is up in the air is, do we still want promotion this season? Based on recent communications by Zaki and Tiger e.g. about being sustainable/structurally sound would suggest we’re not ready for promotion, but hard to come clean with that when you want to still maximise your revenue on gate receipts until the end of the season at least!
