Home Match Day Thread +++ 25/9/18 OUFC v Manchester City Match day thread+++

Train!! They could of got a private jet to Oxford Airport.
They get the train to most Southern games, I was on Manchester Piccadilly with my son earlier this season waiting to get a train south and we were suddenly ushered to one side while they all wandered up the platform and got into the front two first class carriages. I think MUFC do likewise.

Get out there and give them a welcome to League One they won`t forget. Get some early levellers in and make them doubt themselves.

1-0 us........... random wonder strike in the 71st minute.

Lots of people left with no fingernails when the ref blows in the 96th minute.

So I started attending in 2001. Saw Arsenal at Highbury and was also at the Villa game.
Were Swansea in the prem when we played them? If my memory serves me, this is the 3rd premier league team we’ve faced in that time.

(Not counting Man United and Chelsea friendlies either)

Anyway my point is that I’m really excited for this!

They are in Division 1 and we are in Division 3 drop all this "Prem" bollox. :D

Can remember a 3-0 away League win...... they aren`t anything special. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Man City beat the a**e off any team that plays football - that is, football as played in the Premiership.

What they won't have come up against is the good ol' route one. Bypass the midfield and lump the ball towards the corner flag and get Whyte and Holmes run for the ball and get it into the box. Leave two or three up front at all times, the rest can defend.

Should take 'em a good ten minutes to adapt by which time we might just have created something.

Then they'll muller us.

Swansea were a PL side when we played them in our 2015-16 FA Cup run. We beat sides from all five top divisions in England that season.

Stretching my memory for other PL sides aside from the Arsenal and Villa games - Middlesbrough away (FA Cup 2016-17), West Brom away (League Cup 2014-15) and West Ham away (League Cup 2010-11) are the others, plus a few instances of playing good Champtionship sides that got promoted like exiting the League Cup to Brighton the season before last.

So the odds aren't good as our record since 2001 has been P6 W1 D0 L5 against sides from the top tier, however I think we gave a good account of ourselves in all of those games and only two of those six were at home so defeats were more likely.

We'll 'ave 'em on toast!

Mitchell
Norman Mousinho Nelson Garbutt
Brannagan Hanson
Henry Baptiste Holmes
Whyte

Would be my team. All of our players even remotely likely to make something happen (Holmes, Whyte, Henry & Baptiste) on the pitch. Holmes and Henry keep it narrow and compressed and crowded centrally. Baptiste can drop in and make it a three in midfield when needed. Branno and Hanson back together at CM.

No disrespect, but if the likes of Kompany and Otamendi are playing there is zero point in playing Obika or Smith. We won’t get the ball anyway, and neither of them will get an inch. At least Whyte is quick and if, by some miracle, he does get the ball at his feet, even the best defenders don’t like players running at them with pace.

Suspect if Long is involved it will be instead of Norman - who KR didn’t sound too pleased with after the first goal at the weekend.

Predictions - hard to see us scraping 25% possession let alone threatening an upset. Like most i’d take a creditable, low scoring defeat to build confidence and jumpstart our flatlining season. However, like most (and if their rumoured starting line-up is correct) I fear that if City are even remotely up for this it could be a cricket score...

A few PL teams struggle to get 25% possession!
I agree and would play the same team as you have.
Really important tgatvtge players don't drop their heads if things aren't going their way.

Well, they’re allowed in the stadium before us, for a start. Is the OUFC staff queuing outside at the moment?
