It’d be nice to see Woltman come through. Doesn’t seem to have had a chance or is out of favour. Maybe his time will come in.
My two favourites would be Goodwin and Young to come in. I’m sure that would please most of us
I don’t want to be fussy, and on the face of it they seem like two good players to add!

If we’re going to add two more, I’d like one to be a loan of someone with a little more experience at this level or above.

But I’m just being picky there 😂

I think whoever we are going for we can’t wait until the end of the window (except maybe for the odd one). We’ve got 4 games back to back Sat, Tues, Sat, Tues, coming up before the end of Jan. We need competition, cover and a strong bench for some very tough games before the month is up.

I reckon we’ll bring in a couple more, maybe a third on the last day
I reckon 3 more, we have 2 more loan slots available so I would have thought we’d make use of them and then it seems we are making bids and looking to sign someone permanently. Whether we get it over the line is another thing!

If we were only to get 3 then a striker is a no brainer and I'd like another midfielder, someone with some presence ideally. Then a wide player to finish up but I think it would still leave us light up front, really I'd want to get enough cover in to get G'OD out on loan. He needs proper minutes not 10/15 every other game, we've really hampered his development over the last 18 months by keeping him hanging around when he's not yet up to the level and more recently using him seemingly exclusively to run down the clock.

If we want to go up then another 3 signings would be very risky. We don't need to go mental but it's worth pushing the boat out a bit more while we're in the playoffs and without a real outstanding team in the division this year. While we've had a tough run with injuries many of them aren't unexpected and relying on Browne and Murphy to contribute much would be really naïve based on all evidence so far. Perhaps we're factoring in signing Edwards at some point but that's hardly risk free either.

3 more in, unless of the highest quality, is a tentative stab at seeing if we can stay in and around the play off mix. Des wanted 6 so another 4 from now, and that would be my minimum in order to realistically remain as we are, perhaps endanger the top 2 if a few other things go our way such as one of the strikers finding the net regularly and players returning to fitness and staying fit. For me, if we're going to mount a proper assault on the top 2 (which we really should be from the position we find ourselves in at the half way mark), we should be pushing for a 5th with the aim of staying away from a repeat of the last 10-12 weeks we've just had to endure. If that isn't enough to make you double down on your squad depth, let alone the fact we are within sniffing distance of the automatics, nothing will be. Plenty of reason there to push ourselves for all we can get out of the window (without being irresponsible and buying crap).

Think this is incredibly harsh on a 19 year old kid. Whilst I agree he needs a loan move for his development, I also think he's been the victim of being thrust in as a 17 y/o as someone we can rely on, KR went overboard (not necessarily blaming him) with praise and hype early doors and fans expected way too much of him. He actually did pretty well last season and was definitely a good option off the bench but the first lull in form and confidence and now he's being written off - it's the reactionary nonsense you get from fans nowadays, there is no middle ground, it's either you're good enough or your not to a vocal majority on social media. A lot of strikers at this level don't hit peak form until they're about 28/29. Gatlin is 10 years off that, so maybe it's not him who needs to take a long hard look at himself.
Well said

As I’ve said before, expecting another 4/5 incoming is pie-in-the-sky. I think DB has already hinted, without saying, that we are forced to wait for other clubs’ decisions. I’d guess three will be the final result, one of which will be a striker of some description. In the second half of the season we will continue to float around the 5th-8th positions as a result.

You're probably right - tonnes of variables involved. I don't know the budget, what's freed up by exits and what's left. I also won't pretend I know the nuances of the January window, that's purely what I see as the scale of the task.

Ultimately, I can't imagine anybody was watching us as a fully fit side under Manning and thinking we didn't need anything more; that this was all we needed. We were always 3 or 4 bodies light (for whatever reason, daft salaries on individuals perhaps the main one) and since then we've had 5 exits and only 2 directly replaced. So the net movement of bodies is still there to be completed and then that leaves us with the extra ones that we always needed in order to go the distance even before Des arrived.

Good for him. Posh will likely accept less from a club he really wants to go to. Not sure this is just about money for JCH.

What Barry Fry means is 'we won't get a better offer.'
I would say it is all about money for him. Sit tight until the summer and he will get whatever transfer fee clubs were willing to pay (or close to) in signing on bonus straight into his back pocket.

I'd be very surprised if we did anything in the midfield. On the Dub, Des mentioned that we were loaded in the midfield and my impression was that he is only looking up top.

Wondering if we might be able to add Golding at the very least from the younger players.

I think you have to remember that every new player coming in affects the team dynamics which seems something that is very much part of Buckingham’s approach from that interview in the Guardian a few days ago.
