We played Pompey then Wycombe in 3 pretty low standard games in the play offs that season.
That was 19/20, the poster you were replying to said 20/21 season which is when we lost to Blackpool. Though he did mention Wycombe so probably a bit of confusion all round then 😂

Although it was behind closed doors (for nearly all of it) 20/21 was a proper season, all fixtures completed so we earnt our play off place, the previous one is the one that should have an asterisk by it for me, wasn't a proper full season.

Have a look at world club football over the last decade, and see how process-driven clubs fare against pure results. If it’s ‘B*****s’ then something very weird is going on.

I'm not sure what 'process-driven' has to do with an argument over whether some computer-generated stats prove that we're actually a top-six team suffering a incomprehensible run of misfortune that's left us mysteriously close to the relegation zone*.

But, taking you at your word, do you think Karl Robinson is the man to manage a process-driven (is this like Brentford 'use analytics'?) management structure when he's proven over the seasons to expel people who are acknowledged as good at their jobs (Dan Harris the academy bloke, Fazackerly) and cultivate a coterie of um, well, individuals whose contribution in terms of insight appears neglible (Kinniburgh is I assume a board appointment driven through a process that has been described**, and draws power to himself like a magnet?

* AI, supercomputers: dear me they're not unimpeachable objective judges, they reflect the data that they've been trained on which, astonishingly, reflects the bias and quality of knowledge of the trainer. Without knowing the data sources and the training method, plus what they were trained for, you can't say they're much more reliable than reading goats' entrails.

** The italicised text uses a tenet of Logical Positivism (go read A.J. Ayer's Language, Truth and Logic). Like 'AI', philospohy is of very limited utility for any prupose that's not highly-specific however I've found the ability to explain why (or how, come to think of it) something is done, or will work to be a veritable touchstone for recruiting, assessing and managing sales, management and technical staff***. I have never heard Karl Robison explain one f*****g thing clearly and objectively.....

*** edit - I shoud make it clear for some on here that the ones you want are the ones who can

Quote... "The website uses a scientific model that is based on a large database of advanced in-game statistics, which can be used to determine how good a team really is without the noise of results.

Because, while results are everything, they don’t actually tell the whole story.

As far as Oxford are concerned, their results this season do not match with how they have performed."

Without the noise of results! What a load of B*****s.
Oh for the good old days, two teams played each other and the better team won. Sometimes you came up against an inspired goalkeeper who kept the opposition in the game.
Game over move onto the next, no endless debate about referees, missed chances, formation, manager, board etc.It was talked about in the pub or on the way home and that was it.
But the facts are we are in the bottom six because we don’t win games end of.
Results are everything and they do tell the whole story look at the league table

Is Robinson contracted until March?
If Nathan Jones goes to Southampton maybe Robbo can do a job at Luton?

He's contracted until the end of the 23/24 season.

Why on earth would Championship Luton employ a manager who has achieved one promotion from League One in 11 seasons and suffered relegation in his one season in The Championship? That isn't meant as a dig but he's hardly got a pedigree that would be attractive to them.

The job Robbo could do at Luton would be to get them relegated.
Which is what Peter was maybe hoping for?

Have to say that the better team didn't always win but agree entirely with everything else.
I don't go a lot on stats, results are the be all and end all.

As said above, several successful teams of slender means have used data analysis heavily, such as Brentford and Brighton.

7 minutes of ‘Shrewsbury preview’ up on iFollow.

Shrewsbury mentioned for a minute maximum.

Other 6 minutes are very interesting… 🤔

No - why? When have I suggested that I do?

And process driven is pretty self-explanatory. Clubs who have a clear idea of how they operate and sticking to that rather than being swayed incident-by-incident on the results of their actions over a short period of time.

Ah but that’s the point
I know what you mean but at the end of the season you will see
eg OUFC 1 Peterborough 2
No mention that the ref had a shocker, no mention we outplayed them in the second half with 10 men.
It will read Oxford 0 points Peterborough 3

I had this argument way back in the sixties when I walked away from a game we won 1-0 Shuks scored v Fulham, they battered us but we came away with 2 points then. My friend a Fulham supporter argued all night that they were the better team but my Dad said it won’t say that when you read the result in the paper tomorrow

I have a dilemma and need advice ! Do I pay 10 quid to I follow for the Shrewsbury game and take a chance we play well or the alternative! Watch Coronation Street instead !

Well yes, the better team doesn't always win. Always plenty of variables!!
I was at the Fulham game March 69. Ron Saunders had just taken over from Arthur Turner. We brought on Peter Higgins a CB for Ken Skeen a striker to shore up the defence and see the game out!!
John Shuker scored 4 games in a row from that game on. Saunders turned our season around when we were looking like relegation candidates.

Go with the latter. Percy Sugdens gunna bang in a hattrick.
