Home Match Day Thread 16/07/22 PSF: OUFC v Coventry

So.............. we will see how good we are when we play Cov & WBA will we? 🤷‍♀️

Full backs are looking an absolute disaster this season. That’s no hyperbole.

Long is drifting into injury prone territory (and as much as we like him, is he really good enough for automatic promotion?). Seddon is kamikaze. Forde isn’t a RB but is all we have. Brown looks like he’ll be deployed as CB meaning we have no secondary option at LB.

This defence is as bad as it was last season and that’s what cost us getting a playoff place. Why why why it is not focused on more makes be bang my head against the wall.

Anyone who seriously thinks we’re a top six contender this coming season best be revising their predictions. This looks like it’ll be our worst finish since 2018-19 at this rate.

I'm amazed you think the defence is only as bad as last season!!

Apart from "leaky" at the back & a little "toothless" upfront it's all good then. :)

I've always wanted Slavi Spasov to come through for us. Hope that injury is nothing serious.

I would say this game is a learning exercise, but the players who would normally benefit from learning from this sort of game aren't in the building yet. Important next few days to get new players in the building so that we have a competitive squad in place to start the season in just two weeks' time.

Long from 2 years ago? Absolutely
There will be another left back and hopefully Findlay.

It's gonna be a long long old season Nothing to be excited about on quite a few fronts

No doubt that we'll struggle with defence and injuries we have at present. We need a good number of good signings through the door as quickly as possible and hope that we can survive until they're bedded in.

I've always been optimistic at the start of a season but not yet this year. Hopefully, that'll change in the coming days.

My main worry is that as the match went on, Jerome made the point of saying the KR was hoping rather than expecting the 3 signings by Tuesday. I wonder if Rosie told him to reign it in a bit when he popped upstairs?

Findlay yes - and quite frankly has to be signed.

Another LB? No chance. KR has Seddon and Brown and he’ll think that’s sufficient. Neither of which are good enough. Seddon could make a LWB or even LM but he need to rein it in when it comes to attacking.

I can't say I think that we learned much from that. A couple of the younger players did OK, a couple of the older ones sounded a bit disappointing.

There was a general lack of excitement though, it was all very one-paced, unthreatening and workmanlike. Unfortunately that might have been coloured for me by the fact that I am feeling very uninspired by the club at the moment. Let's hope they pull off a few positive surprises before the season starts to get us all fired up - because what we have is simply not good enough.
