I lived in Oxford for 39 years, the only time I went inside the colleges/university was to do some work, as pretty as the buildings are you don’t really benefit as a local from the facilities they have. Whereas the new ground will have facilities that will be used by everyone and that is very much needed.

The University had have this public concert hall approved (they seem to get every planning application approved). Does this mean less of a need for the ice rink that could also be a concert venue at Stratfield Brake?

Meanwhile, the various colleges continue to close down grassroots live music venues whilst OCC looks away…

Yes, it's definitely a development for the privileged few whereas everything at Stratfield Brake will be for the everyday people of Oxfordshire.
Privileged few? Nothing’s stopping Us fans from going to classical music concerts if they want!
It’s great that a city of diverse culture like Oxford will have suitable options for all types of music.

Yes it is great news there is no need to be negative about the prospects of Stratfield Brake being approved.

Except it doesn’t. Because the colleges keep shutting down venues they don’t like.

When we were playing Sunday League back in the seventies we had a couple of students playing for us
They got us into loads of venues absolutely brilliant

Not sure what you mean by that? The Cellar wasn't to do with the university, I don't think.

The old Oxford City ground was though! Brasenose college.

Yes this concert venue looks great, it will be beautifully designed I'm sure and there's already a space for it on the site in Walton Street.

There's no place for inverted snobbery or self-limiting - you can like football and classical music.

I'll admit I have a chip on my shoulder about these things which is probably due to growing up in Oxford. I'm a proud supporter of The 93% Club too. I stand by my comments but that's for a different post.

I just hope our planning application is looked at as favourably and fairly with no unconscious bias as football and football fans will be using the proposed new stadium.

But as I say, let's keep this thread on topic.

The concert hall is part of the Walton Street development on the site of the old Radcliffe Infirmary. The university have bought the land and there's a space for the building, so it's a lot further along than ours. There won't be any parking so that's not an issue. Let's have both!
