I refer to my earlier post about my uncertainty in this window.
I'm torn.
One side of me very happy...
We fought off bids for arguably two of our best players. That's HUGE and as good as a big signing IMO.
But I'm not ECSTATIC with those that we've signed.
They aren't BAD signings at all... But I feel if this window was an assignment, we'd be given an A for effort, but a B for delivery.
Browne - I was never overly excited at the prospect in the first place. I think it's a risk. And one which I hope pays off. But it's a lot of money (I'm guessing) for a player in a position of which we have plenty of players already. If he comes good, then fair play... But it's a big if. We all know how big injury players can struggle to find their form again. I'm well aware that he's a cracking player when fit... But he isn't, right now, and nor can we predict that he will be.
Smyth... One for the future. All for that. Love the model. It's proven effective. And I love to see young talent given a chance and to become something.
But he isn't for now. Which is fine.
Brown... It's cover. I suppose that's all we needed. But it feels a scramble around last minute. I can't imagine he was high on our list throughout the window.
We are still missing cover for Taylor...
A ST was last on my wishlist, but I do think we're fucked if Taylor gets injured.
This isn't a moan, a dig, a pessimistic attitude... It's my analysis on the situation.
I don't think we've done badly at all...
I just don't think it's a window to be overly buzzing about.
Other than keeping Branners and Sykes, of course
Onwards and upwards.
Win or lose, up the U's
